March is nearly upon us and with March, comes the following Saturday events: Saturday, March 4 - IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Alton High School. Here is the schedule of our events. This is a required performance by every student and it is worth 100 points. We will be meeting at CMHS at 7:30am on Saturday and taking a bus to Alton; there will be a return bus after the last event of the day. If you'd like to meet us at Alton and take your child home with you after their performance, you may - I just need to see you with your child before you leave. I will be attempting to watch all of our events as they happen, so if you follow the schedule, that's where you'll find me or you can message me via Remind to meet you somewhere in the school - I will say depending on where you're at in the high school, reception can be a bit spotty. Imagine our auditorium, just throughout most of the school. There will be concessions at the event so if you'd like to eat, please bring money or you may bring lunch/snacks. Saturday, March 11 - Fine Arts Boosters Annual Dinner Auction held at CMHS Commons. Doors open at 5:00pm and dinner begins at 6:00pm. Entertainment will be provided that evening during dinner from the CM Jazz Band as well as the cast of Cinderella. Sign-ups for volunteering for the event will be posted on my office door this week. Students working the event will receive extra credit. If you'd like to volunteer to work that night, please let me know. If you'd like to buy a ticket, tickets are $20 each or $150 for a table of 8. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 17, 18, and 19 - CMHS presents Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Performances are at 7pm, 7pm, and 2pm. It's shaping up to be a wonderful performance! For tickets, please contact Mrs. Woelfel. Saturday, March 25 - Sweets 'N' Swing! This event was held in the past and I thought it would be wonderful to bring it back! There will be a dance floor for some swing dancing as well as sets performed by our CM Jazz Band as well as Second Generation Swing, a professional big band based out of St. Louis. They are a non-profit organization donating their time and talents for us. I sent home a donations/volunteer list with your child/ren. If that didn't quite make it home, it can be found here. I would like this filled out and returned by March 10. Thursday, March 30 - Nashville Departure Meeting in CM Auditorium (7pm) Friday-Sunday, April 7-9 - Nashville Trip The final trip fundraiser is selling Cheesecakes. Order forms were passed out to those interested last week. Make checks payable to CMHS Bands and completed order forms with money will be due Friday, March 10. Delivery will be March 20th. I forget how short of a month February really is... The final fundraiser of the year is... CHEESECAKES. I will be handing out the order forms on Tuesday. Order forms with money (checks made out to CMHS Bands) will be due Friday, March 10th. Delivery will be March 20th. The February Nashville payment is due February 24th. The final Nashville payment will be due on March 14th. Chaperones - I would like to have a meeting in the upcoming week or so - you'll be getting another e-mail from me soon! :) IHSA Solo and Ensemble is coming up on Saturday, March 4. This is required for all band students - all students are in an ensemble of some sort with their instrument group. Students will take a bus to Alton High School that morning, perform in front of a judge (usually in a classroom) and we will drive back. Pretty fun morning! I haven't been given times as to when each group performs, but once I do, I will send that information out! The Fine Arts Boosters Dinner Auction is Saturday, March 11th. We will need volunteers for that event! More information to go out soon, but the theme is Cinderella! Set-up will be Friday, March 10th (we will also need volunteers!) The jazz band is playing that night and I also think a few of our cast members are singing. The CM band and choir are putting together a board game basket to be auctioned off the night of the event - if you have anything you'd like to donate for that basket, please have your child bring it to me by Monday, March 6. Civic Memorial High School presents Cinderella Friday, Saturday, and Sunday March 17th, 18th, and 19th. Mrs. Woelfel has more information about tickets and pricing, and please see her to buy tickets. I've observed some rehearsals and I think it's going to be an absolutely fantastic performance! Saturday, March 25th is our Sweets 'N' Swing jazz concert! Admission is free, but we will be selling desserts the night of - please let me know if you'd like to volunteer to help run the dessert table. At this point in time, I have one parent volunteer! :( Both our jazz band and Second Generation Swing, a phenomenal, non-profit jazz ensemble, will be performing the night of the event. We will also be having a dance floor! It'll be a wonderful evening. We will have some ensemble rehearsals happening outside of class time the next two weeks in preparation for Solo and Ensemble. Those rehearsals will be 25 points each - if you cannot make it to them, it is your responsibility to LET ME KNOW. We have been invited to perform at the Silver Medallion Ceremony in April held at Lewis and Clark Community College. I'll be taking select students to this ceremony - they have already been informed. Just a reminder that the Fine Arts Boosters annual Dinner Auction is Saturday, March 11. Please consider donating to the high school's basket of board games! Have your child bring any donations to me at the school. If interested in attending the dinner, tickets are $20 a person. Please contact anyone in charge of the auction for tickets! Our jazz band is playing during dinner! NASHVILLE TRIP - For those going to Nashville, there will be a mandatory departure meeting on Thursday, March 30 in the CM auditorium at 7pm. This is just to discuss some last minute details and make sure that everyone is on the same page. Solo and Ensemble (a required event for all band students) is Saturday, March 4. More information to come about call time for this event. Dress is nice - does NOT have to be all black, however. Sweets 'N' Swing is scheduled for Saturday, March 25. Admission is free, however, we will be selling desserts the night of the event. If there is any adult willing to head up this table, please let me know. I will not be available to help with the table because of conducting the jazz band. February has arrived! For those that participated in the Tom Evans fundraiser, our order is ready for pick-up earlier than they had anticipated. They will be delivering our order at 2:15pm this Tuesday, Feb. 7. Your child will be able to take their order home right after school on Tuesday. If you would like to come pick up the order, you may enter Civic Memorial after 3pm. We will be kicking off our final fundraiser of the year with cheesecakes. That fundraiser will begin February 22nd and going through March 8th with delivery being on March 20th. This will be for individual accounts for future trips. I mentioned them in the last update, but just to keep you aware, there are a few big dates in March to keep in mind: Saturday, March 4 IHSA Solo and Ensemble, Alton High School, Alton, IL - This is a required date for everyone in our band. Everyone has been assigned to an instrument choir (flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass, or percussion). We will take a bus to Alton High School and they will perform (you may come and watch them perform if you'd like - they are performing in a classroom in front of a judge and parents/friends are more then welcome!) If you'd like to take your child home after their performance, you may (I just need to see you with your child before leaving the school - and students may NOT go home with anyone other than their parent/guardian - don't even ask!) or we will take the bus back to Civic Memorial once everyone has completed their performances. Some students decided to perform a solo or smaller ensemble (duet, trio, etc.), as well! Saturday, March 11 Fine Arts Booster Dinner Auction, Civic Memorial High School Commons - The Fine Arts Boosters benefit our music and fine arts programs in Bethalto. They are responsible for some of our instruments and supplies, the musical's costumes, and supplies and necessary items found in our art program through Trimpe and Civic Memorial. Please consider coming to this auction! Tickets are $20.00 per person and a silent auction as well as a live auction is held. Our jazz band will also be providing some dinner entertainment! Students will be offered extra credit to help work at the event. More information to come! Along with this event, we are being asked to create a basket to include in the dinner auction. Our basket theme is "Board Games". If you have anything you'd like to donate to this basket, have your child bring it to me.
