Hi, hey, hello!
I hope your summer break has started off well! Over the summer, I'll be sending out fewer emails. FUNdamentals Camp is on Tuesday, June 12 through Thursday, June 14 from 8am-12pm. This camp is for freshmen, sophomores, and student leaders (not including percussion and color guard), although all students are welcome! Hi, hey, hello!
This email will just contain some last minute Memorial Day Parade information! Meet at CM at 9am; there should be busses that will take us to the beginning of the parade which is behind the water department. Dress for the parade for band is marching shoes, tall, black socks, black pants, and the band polo. Color Guard: black shoes, black shoes, black capri leggings, purple guard uniform top. HYDRATE! SUNSCREEN! We will be performing the school song during the parade along with cadences. At the ceremony, we will be performing the Star Spangled Banner as well as the school song. I know some of you may not have Banner memorized, so we are going to bring some folding stands and the pep band binders for that. Thank you for supporting those who have passed away in the armed forces - this parade and ceremony mean so much to a lot of people and I'm thankful that we as a band can do our part to celebrate their sacrifices. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Congratulations to the 2018 Graduates! I know you've heard from the administration and faculty and staff how proud we are of you, but here it is again: we are truly so proud of all of you and cannot wait to see what you do with your futures! Performances aren't completely over for us, though! We do have the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28th. We will have a short rehearsal on Friday, May 25 from 1pm-3pm where we will run through music (we will be playing the school song and the Star Spangled Banner) and refresh ourselves on marching. There is a possibility that this rehearsal will only last an hour or so. I know this is outside of school, but I would hope that we could get as many students in attendance as possible to help our community celebrate those who died while serving in the armed forces. Only those who are currently in high school band or an alumni of the high school band should come to the rehearsal and parade. Please invite alumni to march with us! Dress for the parade will be the band polo (the new one - the old one is officially retired!), black pants, black socks and marching shoes. We will need some volunteers to walk with water during the parade so please let me know if you are interested! The band final is from 9:35am-10:35am tomorrow. I've communicated with those who have to take the final due to attendance, discipline, and grades, but anyone can choose to take the final if they want! If choosing to take the final, it will not hurt your grade. Percussion rehearsals start this week! See the percussion rehearsal schedule attached. I've also attached the full 2018-2019 calendar to this email. This Week Monday, May 21 - Band Final (9:35-10:35) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6pm-8:30pm) - Alton Muny Band Open Rehearsal/Auditions (7:30pm) Wednesday, May 23 - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-5pm) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6pm-8:30pm) Friday, May 25 - Memorial Day Rehearsal (1pm-3pm) Next Week Monday, May 28 - Memorial Day Parade (9am call at CM - wear band polo, black pants, black socks and marching shoes) - will be back at the high school by 11am or so Wednesday, May 30 - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-5pm) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6pm-8:30pm) Throughout the summer, I won't be sending weekly emails, but I will be sending monthly emails. However, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact my email address. I guarantee I'll answer! If you call and leave and message on my office phone, I cannot guarantee when I will answer that. Musically yours - Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Thank you to all who came out to the spring concert last Thursday. Cornerstone Church was a wonderful venue; one that I think we are going to continue to go to for the spring concert. I also believe that the students performed wonderfully! Some of the literature they played last Thursday was NOT easy, but they made it seem like it was. I Am, in particular, brought me to tears and that is definitely what music is supposed to allow a listener to do: feel! We are ALMOST done with the school year. Just a few more things left before we dive into next year. Beginning Band Night Extra credit will be given to those who can help set up and work the beginning band instrument rental night at Meadowbrook Intermediate on Thursday, May 17th. Meet me at Meadowbrook in the gym at 5pm and bring your instruments! We offer flute, soprano clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion to 5th graders, but bring other instruments (piccolo, bass clarinet, tenor/bari saxophone, horn, and tuba) to allow them to see what they can step up into! Graduation Graduation is next Saturday, May 19th. Call time will be 5:30pm, dress is nice clothes! We play before the ceremony as well as Pomp and Circumstance, which is the song that the graduates walk out to. Band Final The band final is scheduled for Monday. The exemption list has NOT been sent out yet, but if you do not have any more than 5 excused absences and a C or better in the class, you do NOT need to take the final. However, if you would like to take the final to raise your grade, it will only help you - it cannot hurt you! I will communicate in class with those who have to take the final. Memorial Day Parade We will have a quick Memorial Day Parade rehearsal on Friday, May 25th from 1pm-3pm. We play the school song during this parade and at the ceremony after the parade, we play the National Anthem as well as the school song. The parade is Monday, May 28th - call time TBA, but plan on meeting at the school. I will be sending out an email to the 2018-2019 Marching Eagles soon to introduce all the summer activities we have going on! Please start sending me any absences so that I can start writing those in my attendance sheets. If you have any questions about what you need to attend vs. what you do NOT need to attend, let me know! (EVERYONE ATTENDS BAND CAMP ;) This Week Monday, May 14 - Color Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) - Alton Muny Band Open Rehearsal (7:30pm - LCCC) Tuesday, May 15 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm - CM Commons) Wednesday, May 16 - Percussion Auditions (After School; Times vary) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) Thursday, May 17 - Beginning Band Instrument Rental Night (5pm - Meadowbrook Gym) Saturday, May 19 - CMHS Graduation (5:30pm call - CM Auditorium) Next Week Monday, May 21 - Band Final (Non-Exempted Students Only) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) - Alton Muny Band Open Rehearsal/Auditions (7:30pm - LCCC) Wednesday, May 23 - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-4pm) - Color Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) Friday, May 25 - Memorial Day Parade Rehearsal (1pm-3pm) Monday, May 28 - Memorial Day Parade (Time TBA) If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to send them my way! My apologies for sending out this update late; I was in Morton, Illinois all day preparing for the Illinois Ambassadors of Music trip to Europe along with Natalie Gould and Sydney Stuart. It's certainly going to be an experience (16 days in Europe!!) for all of us! IT IS CONCERT WEEK!! Our concert is this Thursday at Cornerstone Church at 7:30pm. I'm asking students to please be there at 5:30pm to help set up the church and to get used to the new space. The sound will be MUCH DIFFERENT than in CM's auditorium! Please wear all black, leggings/tights underneath dresses/skirts and no open toed shoes. (Reminder that your concert dress does affect your grade!). There is also an extra credit opportunity this week! On Tuesday evening in the CM gym is our 5th-8th grade band concert. If you would like some extra credit, please be in the gym at 5:30pm to help set up and move percussion equipment. Seniors and Senior Parents/Guardian - If you haven't done so, please send me a freshmen year photo and a senior year photo to include in the slideshow for Thursday night at the concert. - Seniors, if you do NOT have to take finals, please come to band on Wednesday and Thursday of this week so that way we can still prepare for our concert. No need to come Friday; we will be looking at Pomp and Circumstance for graduation. Please also attend band on Monday of next week to get through Loch Lomond. Attendance on Tuesday is determined by how well Loch Lomond goes on Monday and no need to come Wednesday or Thursday! Friday is a no-go as well because it is the first day of finals! Graduation - Graduation is on Saturday, May 19 at 7pm. Please plan on meeting at 5pm to run through our music and make sure everything is set up properly. Where we are at (inside or outside) depends on weather. Dress is nice clothes! Seniors - remember you play with us before the ceremony and then walk in with your class. :) This Week Monday, May 7 - Jazz Band (3pm-4pm; Garrett Schmidt from SIUE will be with us!) - 5th-7th Choir Concert (7pm; CM Auditorium) - 8th-12th Choir Concert (8pm; CM Auditorium) - Alton Muny Band Open Rehearsal (7:30pm; Lewis and Clark Campus) Tuesday, May 8 - 5th-8th Band Concert (7:30pm; CM Gym - extra credit set up @ 5:30pm) Wednesday, May 9 - Color Guard Krispy Kreme Donut Pick-Up (Morning) - Percussion Audition Clinic (3:30pm-5pm) Thursday, May 10 - CM Band Concert (7:30pm; Cornerstone Church; 5:30pm call) Next Week Monday, May 14 - Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) - Alton Muny Band Open Rehearsal (7:30pm; Lewis and Clark Campus) Tuesday, May 15 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm) Wednesday, May 16 - Percussion Auditions (3:30pm) - Guard Rehearsal (6:30pm-8:30pm) Thursday, May 17 - Beginning Band Instrument Rental Night (extra credit opportunity! 5:30pm @ Meadowbrook) Saturday, May 19 - CM Graduation (7pm; 5:30pm call - nice clothes!) I think that's it! We are almost there - 12 days left of school for underclassmen; only 2 left for seniors who aren't taking finals! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis |
