Hi, hey, hello!
The first full week of school went by SO QUICKLY! A few things I want to update everyone on: Remote Assignments There will be required assignments posted to GoogleClassroom on remote days for students to complete. All assignments are graded unless otherwise stated and are posted by 8am. If no assignments show up on GoogleClassroom, then there is NOT an assignment that day. Keep up on these assignments - if you don't, your grade could be impacted! Monday Evening Rehearsals - Full Band Since we are starting with concert band season instead of marching band seasons, rehearsals on Monday evenings have been altered to fit our new reality. Since we don't have all students on in-person learning days, Monday evening rehearsals are for each band (A-K band, L-Z band) to come together and get used to the other parts that exist in our fall concert music. Students agreed to the following schedule: 5pm-6:15pm - A-K band 6:45pm-8pm - L-Z band As it gets darker in the fall, the L-Z band time may change to 6:30pm-7:45pm. Please be aware of that. *Important Note - This week's Monday evening rehearsal has been CANCELLED. Again, Monday, August 31's rehearsals have been cancelled.* Band Handbook The band handbook E-signature form was due this past Friday. If you haven't already filled it out with your child, please CLICK HERE to do so. Thursday Evening Rehearsals - Percussion Only These rehearsals will alternate weekly. 3pm-4:30pm is the first time slot and 5pm-6:30pm is the second time slot. Always check the schedule to see which time you're coming (A-K is one group, L-Z is the other). Yard Sign & Decal Fundraiser All of our fundraisers are being evaluated due to COVID-19 and some are not going to be possible because of the situation. However, our yard sign fundraiser is still a go! If you're interested in ordering a yard sign or window decal to support our student musicians, CLICK HERE to fill out the form and send in payment by Thursday, September 10! We are planning on sending signs home the last week of September. Fine Arts Booster Meeting Kick-Off Our first Fine Arts Booster meeting is THIS TUESDAY, September 1 at 6pm in the CMHS Commons. This is a year of change for us all - please consider coming to this meeting to help support our fine arts programs! --- What do I need in class this week? 1. Instrument & instrument accessories 2. Hi, hey, hello!
CONGRATULATIONS on a wonderful performance Friday night, band and color guard! The staff couldn't be more proud of you all for your resilience throughout the process. For our freshmen class, this isn't a typical year, but at least you were able to experience a little bit of what marching band includes. For our seniors, I'm looking forward to recognizing you throughout the school year. In case you missed the links: Full Performance with Senior Announcement Mr. Newell's Video Yard Sign and Decal Fundraiser We extended this fundraiser! If you are interested in buying a yard sign or window decal, fill out THIS FORM and send in payment via cash or check form (made payable to CMHS Band) by Thursday, September 10. What do I need for class this week? You will NOT need your instruments during class on Monday or Tuesday, but you will need it Wednesday and Friday of this week. When you bring your instrument to school, you may store it in the instrument closet. Do NOT hang out in the instrument closet - put your instrument in there and walk immediately out and to your first hour class. You should have the following materials for class starting Monday, August 24: 1. 1" binder 2. Sheet protectors 3. Pencil (don't be THAT GUY! that doesn't bring a pencil!) 4. Dry erase marker 5. Chromebook We will not be using the concert band folders we had in the past. A binder is required for band this year. The band could really use the following donations: 1. Tissues 2. Paper towels 3. Hand sanitizer (I highly recommend students have their own personal-sized hand sanitizer with them at all times) --- Weekly Schedule Keep in mind that Monday evenings are concert band rehearsal evenings (to put both groups of A-K together and both groups of L-Z together) and Thursday afternoons are percussion ensemble rehearsals. Both of these rehearsals are GRADES! Excused absences will be dealt with on a case by case basis, but do not assume that I know when your sports practices are! Communicate! Week of August 24 Monday, August 24 - A-K rehearsal (5pm-6:15pm - slight time change) - L-Z rehearsal (6:45pm-8pm - slight time change) Thursday, August 27 - A-K percussion rehearsal (3pm-4:30pm) - L-Z percussion rehearsal (5pm-6:30pm) Week of August 31 Monday, August 31 - L-Z rehearsal (5pm-6:15pm) - A-K rehearsal (6:45pm-8pm) Thursday, September 3 - L-Z percussion rehearsal (3pm-4:30pm) - A-K percussion rehearsal (5pm-6:30pm) ----- I know that this is a year of many adjustments. Always remember that my goal is to provide a meaningful instrumental music education to our students in the safest way possible. Any decisions that are made throughout this year are not being made lightly or without thought. What will help us all tremendously right now is if we stay as positive as possible, even in light of changes that we perceive to be negative. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
I'm so excited for tomorrow's performance! Just to clear up some questions I've received throughout the week: 1. Tomorrow's performance WILL NOT BE LIVE. We will record the performance and distribute the link around 7:30pm. I will post the link on Facebook, send it out via Remind, and email it out. Mr. Newell will also be posting it on the Facebook page. 2. Time line for tomorrow is as follows: 4pm - Check in begins. When you get to the school, come inside to check in, grab a music stand and head outside to the stadium. Put personal belongings in the stadium stands, take your instrument, music and music stand to your warm up area. (Woodwinds on the far end zone of the stadium, percussion in the center of the stadium close to the front track, guard on the back track, and brass on the closer end zone of the stadium.) 5pm - Warm Up, tune 5:30pm - Run show music; record show music 6:00pm - Review drill with music 6:30pm - Record show run (we may do two runs depending on how the band feels about the first run) 6:50pm - Record senior announcements 7pm - Dismissal Approx. 7:30pm - Link sent out 3. Dress for tomorrow night is (from bottom to top): marching shoes/jazz shoes, tall black socks, black shorts/capris/pants (no jeans), show shirt, marching gloves. Students with long hair, please pull your hair back into a ponytail/bun/braids. 4. There will be an assignment posted to GoogleClassroom tomorrow morning at 8am. This is due at 11:59pm tomorrow night. GoogleClassroom invites were emailed out. See you all tomorrow! I'm so excited! Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
This update is quite similar to last week's update (that was emailed out on Thursday), but it DOES have some further information pertaining to this week! Please be aware that things change consistently in this world we are in - I will communicate as quickly as I'm able to when it comes to changes that impact the band and what we do. All important changes and information will be shared via myself or the school district. Marching Eagles 2020 Back to School Concert SENIORS - FILL OUT THIS GOOGLE FORM ASAP! Save the date for Friday, August 21st! The Marching Eagles will be performing their 2020 show, We Will Rock You, at four different times: 6:30pm, 6:50pm, 7:10pm, and 7:30pm. Each performance time will be limited to 50 audience members, socially distanced and wearing masks. Also, to coincide with sports events, each student is allowed to invite TWO family members only. I know this isn't ideal, as we have quite a few large families, but this is how it is right now. For those who cannot attend the performance live due to any reason, we are hoping to either livestream the performance via Facebook Live and record it and share it. To sign up for a time slot, CLICK HERE! If you do NOT sign up for a time, you may not enter the stadium and watch the performance! Dress for Students Performance wear for these performances will be: show shirt (received at band camp), any type of black short/pants, black socks, marching shoes, and gloves (those who ordered shoes and gloves will receive them this week). What does this mean for the fall during the school day? Typically, the CMHS band is involved in marching band from band camp to late October. After October, we start preparing for our Christmas concert. This year, on the calendar is a fall concert. When we start school on the 19th, we will be starting in concert band mode and preparing for this fall concert. The classes are a little different this fall. Woodwinds will meet 6th hour and brass and percussion will meet 7th hour. Since we are also on a hybrid schedule with last names A-K attending Monday and Wednesday, and L-M attending Tuesday and Thursday, we will also have two separate bands performing different concert music. Last names A-K will make up one band, while last name's L-M will make up the other. We will also plan on keeping Monday evening rehearsals to allow these students to practice together at least once per week. The full schedule will be shared out when school starts, but please plan on Monday evenings still being band rehearsals anywhere from 5pm-8pm. Color guard will not be meeting with band this fall :(. Those students who are in both color guard and band will attend band, while others will either attend their PE class or discuss with their counselors their other options. Color guard will continue to receive my updates because the spring is unknown as of now, but if the band performs at football games, you can guarantee the color guard will, too! :) Paige is also currently in discussion with Mr. Hannaford about starting winter guard earlier for those who are interested in that activity. Percussion - One of my favorite things about last year were all the percussion ensembles we were able to learn. To continue this, Alex will be adjusting percussion's Thursday night rehearsals into percussion ensembles. A-K will meet together and L-Z will meet together. Full schedule will be given out on the 19th, but see below for the schedule up until September. The plan is to perform these ensembles at the fall concert. What do I need for class this week? You do NOT need to bring your instrument to class this week (but bring it to all evening rehearsals). For this week, you need the following materials: 1. Chromebook You should have the following materials for class starting Monday, August 24: 1. 1" binder 2. Sheet protectors 3. Pencil (don't be THAT GUY! that doesn't bring a pencil!) 4. Hand sanitizer (I highly recommend students have their own personal-sized hand sanitizer with them at all times) Calendar for August The rehearsal calendar for August is below as well as on the GoogleCalendar found HERE. Please remember that we are only allowed to practice outdoors as of right now, so if it rains or other unforeseen circumstances arise, rehearsal will be cancelled. I will always send out an email and a Remind if this occurs, so please ensure that you're receiving both emails and the Reminds. ----- Week of August 17 Monday, August 17 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm - student leader meeting at 4:30pm; check in starts at 4:15pm) Wednesday, August 19 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR A-K last names! - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm - student leader meeting at 4:30pm; check in starts at 4:15pm) Thursday, August 20 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR L-Z last names! - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-6pm) Friday, August 21 - Marching Eagles Performance (5pm call for students - 6:30pm, 6:50pm, 7:10pm, and 7:30pm performance) Week of August 24 Monday, August 24 - A-K rehearsal (5pm-6:30pm) - L-Z rehearsal (6:30pm-8pm) Thursday, August 27 - A-K percussion rehearsal (3pm-4:30pm) - L-Z percussion rehearsal (4:30pm-6pm) Week of August 31 Monday, August 31 - L-Z rehearsal (5pm-6:30pm) - A-K rehearsal (6:30pm-8pm) Thursday, September 3 - L-Z percussion rehearsal (3pm-4:30pm) - A-K percussion rehearsal (4:30pm-6pm) ----- I know that this is a year of many adjustments. THANK YOU to all of the Marching Eagles for such a great week of band camp! We got a lot accomplished - we know all of the drill for the show and memorized the first three songs. Now, to memorize the rest of the music, clean up drill, and put the two together! As you may have heard by now, football has been moved to the spring season and competitions have been cancelled. While there are some virtual experiences and opportunities in the works, these two facts put marching season on a temporary hold. We are hoping to perform at the football games in the spring if state guidelines permit us to do so, but the students have been working so hard on We Will Rock You that we wanted to put together a special performance just for our families! So, without further ado... Marching Eagles 2020 Back to School Concert Save the date for Friday, August 21st!
