Hi, hey, hello!
Update about Monday evening rehearsals The times have altered slightly for these rehearsals. A-K is the same time (5pm-6:15pm), but L-Z has been moved up by 15 minutes to adjust to the sun setting earlier. L-Z times are 6:30pm-7:45pm starting TOMORROW EVENING! Fall Concert Our fall concert is currently scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7pm. The plan for this concert is to record and post it Wednesday, October 21 at 7pm. The recording schedule is as follows: October 15 - Percussion Ensemble recording (during regular percussion ensemble times) October 19 - CM Band recording (during regular evening rehearsal) October 20 - TMS Band recording (staggered start times) On recording evenings, you should wear CONCERT BLACK clothing. Specifics can be found in the Band Handbook, but concert black means ONLY black clothing and NICE black clothing at that. Remember, your marching shoes are PERFECT for concert black. :) Your presence will NOT be needed on Tuesday, October 20 unless you would like to receive extra credit by helping me with the middle school recording session. I'll talk more about this in class. Football Schedule While we are unsure as to what the band's participation is for the football games in the spring, please put the following dates in your schedule for band and avoid scheduling events on these dates. Typically, call time for the event is 5pm with dismissal around 9pm. - Friday, March 12 (Football vs. Triad) - Friday, March 19 (Football vs. Waterloo) - Friday, April 2 (Football vs. Jerseyville)* - Friday, April 16 (Football vs. Collinsville) * It has been brought to my attention that this is the week of Spring Break. Please do not let this football game deter your spring break plans since I'm not sure what our participation will look like at this point. Plan for what you would typically plan on a spring break, and then please let me know if you cannot make it to this game. Yard Signs & Decals My apologies on not getting this sent home last week. They will be sent home TOMORROW EVENING with your child! Grading & Remote Assignments - Nothing new, just a reminder! All assignments from Friday-Thursday will be due on Thursday by 11:59pm. I'm hoping this gives you a little bit of flexibility during your school week as we continue to navigate the hybrid schedule together. I also wanted to touch base on late work: I will accept ALL late work with no penalty every quarter. Again, flexibility is the name of the game this year. That being said, I want to make sure you're clear of the following: 1. If you turn in an assignment late, I will grade it and update grades whenever I can. This might mean that the grade isn't updated instantly. That's the cost of turning in late work. 2. Work due in one quarter, but turned in after the quarter, will not be accepted. While giving you all this opportunity, I also want to encourage you to ALWAYS turn in your work on time. While each teacher is different in this, when you enter the adult life, due dates aren't recommendations, they are requirements. If you're late on a bill payment, the consequence is a late fee. If you continue to be late, the consequence could be your power being shut off, phone being disconnected, etc. I'm being flexible because I care about you all, but the person in charge of your phone bill will not feel the same way. Sight Reading Factory - $2 If you haven't paid this $2, please do so this week. I'm missing this from a few individuals. If you cannot pay this fee this week, please send me an email letting me know. Percussion Rehearsal Times L-Z students will always have percussion rehearsal from 3-4:30pm and A-K students will always have percussion rehearsal from 5-6:30pm on Thursdays. Consider this change permanent! --- What do I need in class this week? 1. Instrument & Accessories 2. Music 3. Pencil Remember, take your instruments home EVERY DAY you bring it to school! Yard Sign & Decal Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who ordered a yard sign or window decal! Our approximate profit from this fundraiser was $528.60! Huge thank you to Jolene Cole for putting this fundraiser together for us - I look forward to doing this fundraiser every year if possible and there is interest! Other Fundraisers for 2020 We will NOT be selling Bobby's Caramel Apples this year due to them not running the fundraiser. Our next fundraiser will be our annual Butter Braids fundraiser. This will kick off on October 19 with orders due by November 2 and delivery being November 11. They have incorporated a curbside pick up to avoid entering the building as well as their online sales option. When this fundraiser was originally scheduled, it was to help with payment for our Florida trip, however, now the funds raised will be split: half for our new uniform account and half for general fundraising for the band. Grading & Remote Assignments As a reminder, the due date for remote assignments from Monday-Thursday of this next week will be on Thursday by 11:59pm. Beginning this Friday, all assignments from Friday-Thursday of the following week will be due on Thursday by 11:59pm. I hope everyone enjoys the three day weekend! Yard Sign & Decal Fundraiser All of our fundraisers are being evaluated due to COVID-19 and some are not going to be possible because of the situation. However, our yard sign fundraiser is still a go! If you're interested in ordering a yard sign or window decal to support our student musicians, CLICK HERE to fill out the form and send in payment by Thursday, September 10! We are planning on sending signs home the last week of September. Remote Assignments - Change of Plans Instead of assignments being due the day of remote learning, they will be due on Thursday evening, 11:59. For instance, if you are an A in-person learner, your assignments for Friday, Tuesday and Thursday will be due on Thursday evening at 11:59pm. If you are B in-person learner, your assignments for Friday, Monday and Wednesday will be due on Thursday evening at 11:59pm. This change is to help you! In case you have a lot of work for your other classes on a remote day, you can adjust band work accordingly. Due to this assignment due date change, all assignments will be posted on Mondays and Wednesdays, except the Friday assignment which will be posted on Friday. Halloween Parade Update Nurse Karen reached out to me last week to share that the Halloween Parade for Bethalto has been cancelled for this school year. I'm sorry to share this because I know the Halloween Parade is always a wonderful and fun evening for our band students. Disney Update The original plan for Disney was to kick this trip off back in late March so students had a full year to fundraise. This is an expensive trip, even with care taken to bring the cost down. Due to losing that fundraising time as well as the ever-changing situation we are in with COVID-19, it is the best decision to cancel this trip for the spring of 2020 and work on rescheduling this for another time. I know some of you may have questions - please send them my way and I will attempt to answer them as I can. Monday Evening Rehearsals - Full Band As a reminder, Monday evening rehearsals are required as a grade: 5pm-6:15pm - A-K band 6:45pm-8pm - L-Z band As it gets darker in the fall, the L-Z band time may change to 6:30pm-7:45pm. Please be aware of that. Thursday Evening Rehearsals - Percussion Only These rehearsals will alternate weekly. 3pm-4:30pm is the first time slot and 5pm-6:30pm is the second time slot. Always check the schedule to see which time you're coming (A-K is one group, L-Z is the other). --- What do I need in class this week? 1. Instrument & instrument accessories 2. Music 3. Pencil Remember, take your instrument home EVERY DAY you bring it to school! You will need it for remote day assignments. What is the plan for in-person class this week due to Monday being off for Labor Day? Due to Labor Day, this week for band will be adjusted as follows: Tuesday - A-K last names remote assignment, L-Z in-person rehearsal (picture day) Wednesday - A-K in-person rehearsal (picture day), L-Z last names remote assignment Thursday - A-K last names remote assignment, L-Z in-person rehearsal Friday - A-K off day (no assignment), L-Z last names remote assignment This is to keep everyone on the same page for assignments. -- September Schedule Week of September 7 Monday, September 7 - No School!
