Hi, hey, hello!
First of all, congratulations to the Marching Eagles on two PHENOMENAL performances this past weekend! Some awesome things happened that I want to share with you: 1. We were 2nd in our class for the parade competition AND 3rd overall from all 11 parade bands. That is excellent! 2. We were 3rd in our class for the field competition and only one band out of finals. THAT is also truly a pride moment. This was the first time we as a band have been to this competition and to do that well on the first time out? Absolutely awesome. I have no words other than proud. You ALL have worked so hard this season. We have come so far and we still have more to grow - once marching band season ends, pep band and concert band season begins! A musician's learning never truly ends. Before that happens, though... this week is dedicated to our senior class. This class has nearly made it through a great achievement: being in band and/or guard for all four years of their high school careers. Let's make this a good last week of marching band for them! Secondly, we as a band can never thank the parents that help us out on the day of band competitions enough. You are all appreciated and it is no lie that the day would not go as smoothly as it did without you all being there. THANK YOU for taking the time out of your day and going with us and supporting the band. Reminder that we do NOT have rehearsal on Monday, Oct. 16th. Instead, we have Batavia High School visiting us on Thursday, Oct. 19th. I realize that this was not on the original schedule for the season, but it should be a wonderful opportunity to meet a different band and spend some quality time with them sharing not only what we do here, but learning what they do as well! The schedule for the night is as follows: 4:15pm - call time at CM (dress will be tennis shoes, shorts, show shirt) 4:30pm-5:10pm - Batavia HS unloads/warms up - CM warms up 5:10pm - CM performs 5:25 - Batavia performs 5:45-6:30 - Dinner (pizza!) 6:30-8:00 - Batavia HS rehearsal/CM observes If it rains, we will perform a standstill in one of the gyms! Are there any parents who would be willing to help with food set up and distribution? If so, please send me a message and know that I'll appreciate you forever. 1st Quarter Playing Tests are due Friday, Oct. 20 by 11:59pm. Requirements can be found on GoogleClassroom. This is a hard deadline. If your test is submitted late or not at all, it will be a zero. This is also determining seating for concert band. Our Marches with Munchies awards ceremony will be on Saturday, Oct. 21st! This is a fun night for all and is a great way to celebrate your success this season. This is a casual event. Doors will open at 6:30pm - the ceremony begins at 7pm. If you have any pictures of the season, please send them to Emily Bloodworth - she's making the slideshow for the evening. There will be an ice cream bar. If you're able to donate, please go here. This Week Monday, Oct. 16 - I'm available for lessons after school if needed for the playing test - Butter Braid Fundraiser begins! Tuesday, Oct. 17 - I'm available for lessons after school if needed for the playing test Wednesday, Oct. 18 - Tri-M Meeting (2:35pm) - Guard Rehearsal (4:30pm-7pm) Thursday, Oct. 19 - Batavia HS Visit (4:15pm call - wear tennis shoes, shorts, and show shirt) Friday, Oct. 20 - 1st Quarter Playing Test due by 11:59pm - Football vs. Taylorville (Volunteers please sign up here) Saturday, Oct. 21 - Marches with Munchies (6:30pm doors open, 7pm ceremony starts) Next Week Monday, Oct. 23 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (4pm-5pm - we will have a parade rehearsal preparing for the Halloween Parade) Tuesday, Oct. 24 - Parent/Teacher Conferences (4pm-8pm) - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm) Thursday, Oct. 26 - Parent/Teacher Conferences (4pm-5:30pm) - Halloween Parade (5:30pm call time - must be in a costume! - We will take a bus to the parade and a bus back to the high school where the best costume will be rewarded!) Pep band games are required for band students. They are 25 points each. If an absence is communicated with me BEFORE the game (approved reasons can be found in the band handbook and syllabus), the absence will be considered excused and no make up assignment will be required. If the absence is communicated with me during or after the game, the absence will be considered a zero. Thank you for your diligence on communicating absences.
