This update will inform you of everything important going into music/guard camp and band camp. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the following information! Music/Guard Camp This camp is next week, Monday, July 24-Thursday, July 27. The goal of music camp is to leave the week with at least the first movement memorized so that we head into band camp ready to go! The goal of guard camp is to learn show work so that the guard goes into band camp with some work learned! The sections and times are as follows: Color Guard @ Bethalto East - 9am-1pm Monday-Thursday Flutes, Clarinets, Alto Saxophones, Horns @ CM - 9am-12pm Monday-Thursday Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpets, Baritones, Sousaphones, Percussion @ CM- 1pm-4pm Monday-Thursday Materials Needed: - Instruments/color guard equipment - Show music - Binder/folder to keep music in - Pencil - Sunscreen - Water/Snacks - Athletic Clothes (no jeans, long pants/sleeves, or sandals/flip-flops) - Hats/Sunglasses Band Camp Band Camp is the week following music camp, July 31 through August 4. Times are as follows for the full band: Monday-Thursday: 9am-1pm, 2pm-5pm, 6:30pm-9pm Friday: 9am-1pm, 2pm-6pm Every day, there will be a one-hour lunch break and every day except for Friday, there will be a 1 1/2-hour dinner break. Students may leave campus during this time or stay on campus to eat. Either option is fine, but being back ON TIME is important. If students take advantage of the off-campus lunch and dinner and do not return on time, or at all, this privilege will be revoked and students will not be able to leave for meals anymore. Don't be that kid! The band learns SO MUCH every day of camp and we leave the week with being able to perform, play and march on the field, as much of our show as we can learn. Missing even just one day of this camp can be detrimental to the band, especially for our newer members. Please try your best to be at camp. Please reference Mrs. Gross' email for what the parents/guardians can provide/volunteer to help our students be the best they can be at camp. CLICK HERE for the sign-up/volunteer link. As a reminder, all parents/guardians should volunteer for one in-person event at least once throughout the season. Band Camp is your first chance to do so! Throughout the week of band camp, we have theme days! Monday - Mad Hatter Monday - dress crazy! Tuesday - Tropical Tuesday - dress like you're going to the beach (school appropriately!) Wednesday - On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink Thursday - Color Wars (check with your student leaders to figure out what color your section is) Friday - Heist Show Shirt After Band Camp We do have a few evening rehearsals following band camp. Please be aware of these dates (they were shared out on the original calendar). Also, of importance, any evening rehearsal that was scheduled for 5pm-8pm will now be 5:30pm-8:30pm. This change has been noted on the master band calendar, found by CLICKING HERE. Purple + Gold Scrimmage The band will be presenting their 2023 show, Heist, at the Purple + Gold Scrimmage on Friday, August 18. This date was not published at the time the band calendar was handed out. This will be the band's first performance of their show and we invite everyone to come see it! We will perform at 6:30pm. Call time for students will be 5pm. Reminder about Attendance Please remember to communicate all absences with me via email. It's also important to realize that in marching band, your absence does not just affect you - it affects the other students in your section, the students standing around you, and the band as a whole. FUNdamentals Camp starts tomorrow, Monday, June 12, 9am-1pm at Civic Memorial High School. Please plan to enter through the back doors and meet in the auditorium. This camp continues throughout this week, ending on Thursday. As a reminder, here's what you should bring: 1. Instruments/Color Guard Equipment 2. Show music 3. Binder/folder to keep music in 4. Happy summer to everyone! I hope everyone has some exciting plans at some point throughout the summer that they're looking forward to! This is an update for all summer Marching Eagles information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. FUNdamentals Camp This camp is Monday, June 12 through Thursday, June 15 from 9am-1pm at CMHS. The end of the school year is upon us! We say goodbye to seniors in class next Wednesday, and then we have until the end of May with everyone else. Below are some important updates about the month of May. Please let me know if you have any questions. End-of-Year Banquet The Band and Choir Banquet for the end of the year is on Friday, May 12. Dinner is at 6pm and is completely optional. Cost of the dinner is $10 for students and $15 for anyone who is not a current band/choir/color guard student. Our Tri-M Music Honors Society is donating $5 to every student to offset the cost of their meal - thank you, Tri-M! Please make checks payable to CMHS Music. Awards are following dinner, at 7pm. All students receive an award at this banquet. Catering will be provided by Chef Bob's Catering and the following items will be offered: - Roasted Pepper Pork Loin - Chicken Piccata - Tortellini Alfredo - Green Beans - Garden Salad - Water - Tea - Lemonade - Assorted Cupcakes (Vanilla and Chocolate) If you are choosing to attend dinner, please fill out THIS FORM by Monday, May 8 at 3pm. The form will close at 3pm. All monies should be turned in by Friday, May 12 (the day of the banquet, but please turn it in prior to dinner time). Make checks payable to CMHS Music. Spring Concert The Spring Band Concert is NEXT MONDAY, May 8 at 6:30pm in the CMHS Gym. Please note the following times: 5pm - Set up for percussion, Tri-M students, volunteers 5:50pm - Call time to warm-up 6:30pm - Concert begins The following ensembles will be performing at this concert: - 6th Grade Woodwinds - TMS Percussion Ensemble - CM Percussion Ensembles - 6th Grade Band - 7th/8th Grade Band - CM Concert Band - CM Wind Ensemble Graduation The CMHS Band performs at the Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, May 20. Set-up is at 5:30pm for percussion and all other volunteers, call time is at 6:10pm for all others. Dress is nice clothes, no jeans, but it does not have to be concert black. We perform in the stadium (weather permitting). Memorial Day Ceremony The last event for the CMHS Band for this school year will be the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29. This ceremony is held at the Rose Lawn Garden. Set up will be at 10am for percussion and volunteers, call time is 10:30am, and the performance is at 11am. Happy April! It might be hard to believe but we only have 7 weeks left of this school year! This update includes all important dates for the rest of the school year. More specific information will be sent out in May for end-of-the-year events, but this at least reminds you of the dates so you can be sure to save them on your calendars! 2023 Marching Eagles Informational Meeting This upcoming Tuesday is our 2023 Marching Eagles Information Meeting. This meeting will be at 7pm in the CMHS Auditorium. It is required for at least one parent/guardian to attend this meeting. Important information about the upcoming season will be shared this evening. Students are not required to attend, however, the 2023 show will be revealed this evening! Fine Arts Boosters BBQ The Fine Arts Boosters, who assisted the band TREMENDOUSLY with our new uniforms, donating $13,000 so that we could purchase them, are holding a BBQ in the Runway Lounge parking lot. If you are able to assist in any way, please see the volunteer sign-up HERE. There are some roles that only adults can help with so please make sure you read carefully. This is a great way for us to give back to an organization that assists the band immensely on our large purchases. Please consider helping if you are available. 2023 Marching Eagles Photo We will be taking a 2023 Marching Eagles photo during study hall on April 19. On this day, all band and color guard students who were a part of the 2023 Marching Eagles, please come to the auditorium, get dressed, and put your instruments together. Color guard, you will wear last year's uniform. Band students, you will wear the new uniform. 2024 Senior Banners For any student that will be a senior in the 2024 school year, we will be taking senior banner photos on Wednesday, April 26 starting at 12:36pm (after school). This banner is completely optional but recommended. The banners will be placed on the fence surrounding the football field during the marching season and are yours to keep after the season is completed. The banners are $35. 2023 End of Year Band + Choir Banquet This banquet is for current high school band, choir, and color guard students. The date of this event is Friday, May 12. ALL students get recognized at this event. Dinner will be provided at an individual cost. Congratulations on a wonderful Winter Showcase last night! In case you missed it or would like to experience it again, here's the video link to the performances: CLICK HERE! Solo + Ensemble For those attending Solo + Ensemble TOMORROW, the schedule can be found attached to this email. This event is held at Alton High School and you are responsible for finding your way there. Be EARLY (at least twenty minutes) to warm up in the gym, find your room, and get comfortable. Make sure to bring: your instrument + all accessories, wear dress clothes, your music, and the original of your music that you received from me. SIUE Percussion Ensemble Festival The itinerary for this festival can be found HERE and attached to this email. ALSO - times for this upcoming Monday evening's run-through of the percussion ensemble pieces have been altered slightly: Rhythm Cell - 6pm-6:30pm Joker's Wild - 6:45pm-7:15pm The full schedule for the festival (all performing groups) can also be found attached. Student Leader Interviews This application will be posted on GoogleClassroom by the end of the weekend. It will be due on Friday, March 24 by 3pm with interviews being held on Friday, March 31. For those interested in auditioning for drum major, please put the following dates in your calendar! If you're unsure of auditioning for drum major, simply come to the clinic! Simply learning what a drum major does and going through an audition process is beneficial!
Color Guard + Percussion Clinics/Auditions Color Guard
Percussion Percussion Auditions are open to any current 9th-11th musician signed up for band for the 2023-2024 school year. Realize that by choosing to audition, you are also signing yourself up for all required summer rehearsals that percussionists attend as well as school year rehearsals and events. Our percussion section can make or break our marching show; do not make this decision lightly. If you audition into marching percussion, you cannot take back this audition - you are committing to a full marching band season of percussion. You will return to your instrument after marching season is over.

Upcoming Pep Band Performances
This concert is coming up on Thursday, March 2. This performance will be in the CMHS Auditorium starting at 6:30pm. Call time for students is 5:45pm and dress is concert black dress clothes. Upcoming Fundraisers The Fine Arts Boosters have some fundraisers coming up - I've attached them to this email. It's so important to support our Fine Arts Boosters because they support us! Their support is a large reason why we were able to purchase new marching band uniforms this year!
