About five weeks until the end of the school year! Only a few more weeks for our senior class... :( Speaking of senior class... seniors, please fill out that senior form and hand it back to me on Friday of this week! Also, please send me any pictures you would like included in the senior slideshow that will be shown the night of our concert. Seniors - I know you are done with school the second week of May (May 8 if you don't have to take finals), but please come to 4th hour every day until after graduation. Depending on the day, the time changes so please be aware of that. That segues right into our spring concert! It will be held at Cornerstone Church this year. This is very exciting, and also happens to present some changes logistically. Our AWESOME maintenance team in Bethalto will be moving all large percussion instruments and stands to the church during the morning of our concert. Call time for our concert will be 5:30pm, which is a earlier than normal, but we have to set up, warm up and get used to the new acoustics in the church. Dress is all black, no open-toed shoes, tights underneath skirts/dresses, etc. All the regular business! Marching Eagles Informational Meeting - This meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at 7pm. Thespian Inductions will be held prior to this, so please do not enter the auditorium until the doors open. This night is extremely important for new members of the marching band, as well as receiving all necessary forms for the upcoming school year... I will also announce next year's marching band show! CMHS Percussion - Percussion audition clinics are Wednesday, May 2 and May 9, with auditions being held on Wednesday, May 16. The rehearsal schedule can be found HERE. I handed out music for this audition last week. You will want to prepare AT LEAST two different instruments that you are wanting to perform on this fall. The auditions you can audition on are: - Snare Drum - Tenors - Bass Drum (Choose one part) - Bells - Xylophone - Marimba 4th Quarter Playing Test and Fine Arts Critique - Both the playing test and fine arts critique are due Friday, May 4 at 11:59pm! These are large grades - the playing test is 100 points, but weighted x2, and the fine arts critique is 100 points. Make sure to do these assignments and get them in on time! Beginning Band Instrument Rental Night - It's that time of the year to start recruiting the 4th graders to play instruments next year! This night consists of what I like to call an instrument petting zoo and will be held on Thursday, May 17 from 5pm-8pm. There will be tables for all instruments that are offered in 5th grade (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and percussion) and 4th graders will be walking around with their parents trying out these instruments! I would like high school students there to help with recruitment as well as to teach the 4th graders how to create a sound on their instruments. If you're interested in helping with this event, please let me know! Graduation - The band does perform at graduation on Saturday, May 19. Depending on weather, it may be inside or outside! Call time is TBA and dress is nice clothes, black is not a requirement. This Week Monday, April 16 - Jazz Band (3pm-4pm) Wednesday, April 18 - Tri-M (2:35pm) Saturday, April 21 - Have fun at Prom! Next Week Monday, April 23 - Jazz Band (3:30pm-5pm) - Edwardsville Band Concert (Fine Arts Critique opportunity - 7pm - Edwardsville High School) Tuesday, April 24 - Senior Celebration (6pm) Wednesday, April 25 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm) Alton Municipal Band - The Alton Muny Band is a concert band based out of Alton that performs throughout the summer at Haskell Park and Riverview Park. They are always looking for musicians to perform with them! A few of our own performs with the group: Ricky Beck, Jake Fromme, and Brayden Shirley! If you are interested in performing with this group, you need to own your own instrument and be able to sight read. See here for more information! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know! Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who helped set up, work, and tear down the Fine Arts Boosters vendor fair this past Friday and Saturday. It truly takes a village to make something like this happen and I cannot stress how important the booster club is to our success as a musical group! A huge, never ending thank you goes to Jennifer Hawkins, Sarah Beiermann, Michelle Myers, Anna Pearson, Jennifer Gould, and Andrew Ambrose. These wonderful ladies and gentleman run the booster club to benefit our students and without them, I wouldn't know where we would be. Your love of our fine arts students in the Bethalto School District is heartwarming to see! Thank you! Spring Concert - Our spring band concert has been relocated to Cornerstone Church in Bethalto! Thanks to Ricky Beck for his help in setting this up - I'm really excited for the band to perform in this venue. However, because of the change in location, it will alter a few things for that night. Call time will be at the church at 5:30pm on Thursday, May 10 to ensure everything is set up in time and for us to warm up and become accustomed to the space; doors for parents and friends will open at 7pm. Dress is still all black, no jeans or open toed shoes and tights/leggings underneath dresses/skirts. If you have any questions, please let me know! Graduation - The band also performs at graduation on Saturday, May 19th. Call time is TBA, but dress is nice clothes. Depending on weather, we may be inside or outside. Beginning Band Instrument Rental Night - Meadowbrook's beginning band instrument rental night will be on Thursday, May 17 at Meadowbrook Intermediate's gym from 5pm-8pm. This is an extra credit opportunity for all students to come help out at this night. Current 4th graders will attend this night and "try out" the instruments offered for 5th grade: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, euphonium, trombone, and percussion. High school students will be the ones who help them try out these instruments by teaching them how to hold it and how to form their embouchure as well as inspire them! If you are interested in helping out with this night, please let me know! Marching Eagles Information Meeting - Our 2018-2019 Marching Eagles informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 1 at 7pm. Thespian Inductions are also this same night, so it may start a little later than 7pm, but we will be in the auditorium. This night is extremely important because of how much information is shared - I hand out all required forms for the next school year and.... I announce the marching band show! :D CMHS Percussion - Here is the summer schedule for CMHS Percussion. Audition clinics are on Wednesday, May 2 and 9 from 3:30pm-5pm, with auditions being on May 16th starting at 3:30pm. You will select one instrument to actually audition on. I hope your Easter was wonderful and full of family and love! While we don't come back to school until Wednesday, I wanted to make sure this update got out sooner rather than later. This weekend is the Fine Arts Booster Vendor Fair! After school on Friday, the Fine Arts Boosters will need help setting up the commons for this event. Extra credit and PIZZA! to those who can stay and help - we will need to clear the center of the commons of all chairs and set up tables only in places where there will be vendors. Vendors will also start setting up their tables on Friday night and student assistance is asked to help them out! If you are free to help out on Saturday either during the day to assist with vendors or later in the day to help clean up, that would be much appreciated as well (extra credit!!!). Sign up sheets are on my office door! Thank you in advance for your help! If you are just wanting to attend, entrance is $2.00. Ricky Beck, a senior in the band, contacted Cornerstone Church and reserved the sanctuary for our spring concert! So, on Thursday, May 10th, our spring concert will be held at Cornerstone Church in Bethalto at 7:30pm. Since this is a space we will NOT be able to rehearse in beforehand, call time for the students will be 5:30pm so that we have time to set up chairs and stands and get comfortable in the new space. Maintenance will move over all big percussion equipment and stands prior to band this day. Congratulations to the 2018-2019 student leader team!
