For my senior families, this is the FINAL email you will receive from me! :) Please continue to donate bottled water! Memorial Day Parade This is TOMORROW! Dress is band polo, black pants, black socks and marching shoes. If you cannot find your marching shoes, we have plenty of extra, but make sure to plan accordingly. Please be at the high school by 9am - I'll be there around 8:30am. Buses will depart for the water tower/behind the police station at 9:15am. The parade steps off at 10:15am and will go straight to the Memory Rose Gardens where there will be a ceremony. We will stay for the ceremony (they provide chairs for us to sit in) and we will also perform the Star Spangled Banner and the school song. After the ceremony, we will board the buses, head back to school and the summer officially begins! Thank you for spending the morning of Memorial Day with the band and our community to thank all those who have served in the United Stated Military and lost their lives defending our country. Attendance This is a gentle reminder that any students missing any rehearsal or performance for any reasons should be communicated to me through a parent/guardian. Within this communication should be a valid reason why. Just saying that your student is missing is not valid. For example: "Jimmy John will be missing rehearsal today due to..." Percussion & Color Guard Percussion and color guard rehearse frequently out the summer to make sure they are prepared for band camp. Please keep these rehearsals in mind when preparing for vacations and make sure you catch up with whatever you're missing. All percussion attendance should go through me; all color guard attendance should go through Paige. To the 2019 graduates - CONGRATULATIONS! To all those who performed at graduation - wonderful job! Special thank you to all those who helped move equipment back and forth and to Mrs. Reynolds for helping us avoid the storm! Please continue to donate bottled water. If the past two days were any indication, we will definitely need it throughout the summer! Memorial Day Parade We have a rehearsal on Friday, May 24 from 1pm-3pm. This parade tends to be a shock to us all - it's usually pretty warm and we haven't spent much time marching in the past few months. Please hydrate leading up to this rehearsal as well as the parade. The parade itself steps off at 10:15am on Monday, May 27: plan on meeting at CM to grab instruments and load the buses by 9am. We will bus over to the start of the parade, which is at The Bank of Edwardsville, parade down to the Memorial Gardens, where there will be a ceremony. I'm not sure if they are wanting us to stay for the ceremony this year, but buses will pick us up at the Memorial Gardens regardless. Dress is marching shoes, black pants, current band polo. Please invite all alumni to join us for this parade - the more the merrier! If you are able to walk with the band and distribute water, please meet us at the high school by 9am. Attendance If you are having to miss any rehearsals over the summer, please send me an email notifying me earlier rather than later. I've already started keeping track of attendance. As I said at the meeting, I take my responsibility very seriously: when your child is supposed to be with me, I worry when they don't show up. Thank you in advance! Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there! Thank you for all that you do in raising your children! Band, congratulations on a beautiful spring concert. Thank you for all of your work this school year. I hope those of you that attended the banquet enjoyed it! Huge thank you to all those who helped set up the banquet as well as those who donated any desserts or drinks. As this was the first year we did it, if you have any ideas on how to make it better for next year, please do not hesitate to send them my way! Ann Twente and I will start looking at organizing this banquet for next year. Graduation Graduation is on Saturday, May 18. The band performs before the ceremony begins as well as during the ceremony when graduating seniors walk. The ceremony begins at 7pm; call time will be 5pm to move equipment, get warmed up, etc. If you are driving, you may want to get there even earlier to find a parking spot. Weather permitting, we are outside in the stadium. We plan on performing Apples, the 6/8 section of By My Side, Imaginarium, then the seniors will head inside to walk. As they procession out, we will play Pomp & Circumstance, and we will also be playing the school song when introduced. As they walk out, we will play the recessional. Plan on wearing nice clothes for the occasion. Seniors Please plan on coming to band the following days: Wednesday, May 15 & Thursday, May 16. This is a pretty busy week, so please read the following email carefully! Spring Concert Our spring concert is THIS TUESDAY at Cornerstone Church. Call time for band students will be 6pm to unload trailer, set the stage, etc. The concert will begin at 7:30pm with performances from our jazz band and concert band. Dress is all black, nice clothes. Reach for the Stars Band Banquet Our end of the year banquet is THIS FRIDAY at CM in the Commons! Please dress semi-formally, nice clothes. I'm looking forward to celebrating all of our band and color guard students. Dinner will begin at 6pm; awards begin at 7pm. Graduation Graduation is on Saturday, May 18.
