Hi, hey, hello!
I hope all of your Thanksgiving breaks were full of family, laughter, and fun! Mine certainly was - now, to return to the real world!! In the stretch to make it to Christmas Break, I want to remind you all of a few things we have going on: 1. Pep Band games are required as a grade. Our first game was last Wednesday and games will continue until February. The schedule can be found here and you'll note that we attend boys and girls home games! If your child needs to be excused from any pep band game, I must receive an email, phone call, or message from you for the game to be excused. If I receive that message from you before the game begins, it will be an excused absence and there will not be a make up assignment. 2. The 2nd quarter playing test (worth 100 points) is due Friday, Dec. 8 at 11:59pm. All information can be found on GoogleClassroom. You will notice that this is the same date as a pep band game. PLAN AHEAD. 3. There will be a musical audition meeting for those interested on Monday, Dec. 4 after school. I will be available to help with learning the audition material on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the same week after school or by appointment. Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 11 and 12, with callbacks being held on Wednesday and the cast/crew list being posted on Friday. Rehearsals will begin in January. If you have any questions, please let Mrs. Neilson or myself know. Hi, hey, hello!
Congratulations to all those who attended the ILMEA All-District Festival in Carbondale this past weekend. From the high school band, we had Jake Fromme (who has made it all four years of high school!), and Alex Hornsey, from choir, Natalie Gould, Emily Bloodworth, Ali Engelmeyer, Cassie Reed, and Jaden Devino, and from middle school band, Morgan Twente. It's an honor to make this ensemble and all their performances were wonderful! Also, congratulations to the CMHS Concert Choir and Select Choir for a wonderful performance of Disney movies music on Monday evening. It was so enjoyable, even for someone who didn't recognize many songs! ;) Thanks to Lee Ann Belangee, Autumn Reed, and Kristie Hampton for handling the butter braid fundraiser on Friday. Your help was much appreciated and the process for handing out the butter braids went very smoothly! Not too much going on the next few weeks, but please remind your child to stay up on all assignments. We don't have as many performances in the last half of the first semester and if they decide to not complete assignments or to not study for the final, it could seriously affect their grade. I handed out the final study guide last week and it can also be found on GoogleClassroom. If they want me to check over the study guide, they must turn it in. Pep band starts this week! You can access the schedule here. If your child has a conflict with pep band, I need an email, message, or phone call from the parent/guardian for it to be an excused absence - reference the band handbook for excused absences. If the student or a student's friend notifies me, it is a zero. There is no make-up assignment for pep band games. There will be a musical audition information meeting on Monday, Dec. 4 after school. I will be available to help prepare students for auditions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the same week from 2:30-3:30 or by appointment. Musical auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 11 and 12 from 3pm-5pm. It's open call auditions. If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Neilson or myself. Crew forms can be picked up from Mrs. Neilson. Cast forms will be handed out at the meeting on Dec. 4. This Week Monday, Nov. 20 - Tri-M Teacher Appreciation Desserts (Set up in the teacher workroom by 7:20am) - Jazz Band (3:30pm-5pm) Wednesday, Nov. 22 - Pep Band (5pm call - wear polo and jeans/pants) - Bandsgiving (after the game - please let me know if you're attending so I can give Steak N Shake some notification!) Next Week Monday, Nov. 27 - Jazz Band (3:30pm-5pm) - Lewis and Clark Community College Jazz on a Fall Evening Concert (7pm - Fine Arts Critique) Wednesday, Nov. 29 - Tri-M Meeting (2:35pm) Friday, Dec. 1 - Drama Trivia Night (Not required for band kids, just informing!) Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Butter braid pick up will be this Friday! Delivery will be at 1pm in the CM commons; students can pick up as they leave the high school that day or anyone can pick up the order after 3pm (once school lets out and most people leave for the day - to avoid too many people being in the commons at once.) Please pick up your order by 5:30pm! If this will be an issue, please let me know. Thank you, thank you, thank you to those who attended the Disco Bingo night on Friday held by the Fine Arts Boosters. It was so much fun and very well attended and to see how many people support the fine arts in Bethalto was amazing. If you're interested in helping out this wonderful organization support our students, please come to the meeting this Tuesday at 6:30pm in the CM commons. Pep band begins next Wednesday! Here is a copy of the schedule; this will be the first game of the season and since it is right before Thanksgiving, we will be having a Bandsgiving at the Wood River Steak 'N' Shake following the game. It is entirely optional, but please let me know if your child will be attending so that I can call and give them some warning. Call time for this first game will be 5pm so that we can rehearse some songs beforehand. Dress will be the new polo and jeans - this will be a part of the grade. Congratulations to the cast and crew of And Then There Were None! It was a wonderful performance put on by all those involved and is a great example of how important EVERYONE is to the final product - without the "behind the scenes" people adjusting lights, sound, hair, makeup, costumes, sets, etc, etc, etc, as well as the actors and actresses on stage knowing their lines and having developed their characters, and the student director, stage manager and director at the helm the performances would not have gone as well as they did! Congratulations! If you aren't busy this Friday, come out and support the Fine Arts Boosters at their first annual Disco Bingo event! Tickets are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door. You can find more information here. The butter braid fundraiser did really quite well! We made almost $1,700! This money will be put aside for use in the future for uniforms and other supplies we may need throughout the year. Thank you to those who sold! Pick up will be on Friday, Nov. 17 in the CMHS Commons. More information TBA. This Week Monday, Nov. 6 - Jazz Band (3:30pm-5pm) Friday, Nov. 10 - Tri-M Officers Meeting (7:45am) - Fine Arts Boosters Disco Bingo (Doors open at 6pm; Bingo begins at 7pm) Saturday, Nov. 11 - ILMEA All-District Jazz Festival (Select Students Only) Next Week Monday, Nov. 13 - Jazz Band (3:30pm-5pm) - Fall Choir Concert (7pm - Fine Arts Critique Opportunity!) Tuesday, Nov. 14 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm) Wednesday, Nov. 15 - Tri-M (2:35pm) Friday, Nov. 17 - Butter Braid Pick Up (Time TBA) - Depart for ILMEA All-District Festival (Select Students Only) Saturday, Nov. 18 - ILMEA All-District Festival (Select Students Only) As always, if you have any comments, questions, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
