It's hard to believe that we are almost through the first semester of the 2022-2023 school year! With the holiday season comes so much fun and happiness, and part of that fun is our Christmas Concert! Below are some reminders and additional information about Trimpe's Christmas Concert. Date: Tuesday, December 6, 2022 Concert Start Time: 7pm Door Opens for Audience: 6:30pm Call Time for Band Students: 6pm in the main gym Dress: Students should wear concert black (nice) clothing. They have the option of wearing a Christmas hat as long as it isn't distracting for the performance (no bells that make a sound, too large, etc.) Instrument Cases: Band students should put their personal belongings in the commons/cafeteria area at the high school and only bring their music and instruments into the gym. The Trimpe Christmas Concert includes 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade bands and choirs. Performances this evening will include the 6th-grade band, 7th & 8th-grade band, 6th-grade choir, 7th-grade choir, 8th-grade choir, AND a special combined performance with the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade band students. The students had a wonderful fall concert, and they have been working so hard for this Christmas concert. I cannot wait to show you the results of their hard work and efforts! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Happy Halloween Weekend! First off, congratulations to our 6th-8th grade band students on their first concert of the school year! If you would like to listen to the fall concert again, Mr. Kalker and the CMHS Media Club live-streamed and recorded the concert. You can find the YouTube link by CLICKING HERE! The students have started working on their Christmas concert music this past week. We cannot wait to show you their hard work and efforts! Now, to the big news: Due to a scheduling conflict, Trimpe Middle School will be moving its Christmas Concert from Thursday, December 15 to Tuesday, December 6 at 7pm in the CMHS Gym. It is my hope that this is early enough notice for all families, but if you have a conflict that you cannot get out of, please let me know. Again, Trimpe's Christmas Concert (6-8 band and choir) will be on Tuesday, December 6 at 7pm in the CMHS Gym. More detailed information will be communicated closer to the concert date. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
I hope everyone's Thanksgiving break was exactly what you needed it to be! I know it's not quite December, but I wanted to send this email update out to ensure that everyone knows what's going on in our classroom for the rest of the semester. We are gearing up for our Christmas concert which is on Tuesday, December 14 @ 6:30pm in the CMHS Gym. Similar to the fall concert, band students will meet me in the commons at 5:45pm. They should be wearing concert black clothes. This has been a wonderful semester of music-making. I'm so excited to share our Christmas concert with you all! Letter to Parents/Students Last night and this morning, I announced to the students that at the end of the school year, pending board approval, I will be moving to Arizona. This decision is based purely on my family's current situation. I have absolutely loved my time in Bethalto, with the students and the families, and the reason I am leaving has nothing to do with any of you. Attached to this email, I included the letter that I read aloud to the students. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, although I may not have answers at this point in time. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Our fall concert is Thursday, October 14th at 6:30pm in the CMHS Main Gym. Performing ensembles include: 6th grade band, 7th/8th grade band, 6-8th grade choirs, CM's Treble Choir and CM Singers. Here are some details about the concert: Call time for band students will be 6pm in the CMHS Commons. Dress for this evening is what we call concert black. Nice, all-black clothing. This is our concert uniform. If you have any questions about what constitutes concert black, please let me know. Students should have their instruments, all instrument accessories (reeds, sticks, mallets), and concert music. Music stands and large percussion instruments will be provided so students do not have to bring that equipment. Expectations for students is that they stay for the entire concert. I know for our 6th grade students and families that this is their first concert. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
My name is Michaela Davis and I'm the band director at Trimpe Middle School. I'm also the band director at Civic Memorial High School. I've been teaching band for six years and I've been working in Bethalto for five of those years. I have a passion for music education, specifically in the form of band, and I'm so excited to share that passion with your students. Music is so essential in our daily lives. I wanted to send this email to say hello, introduce myself, and inform you of a few items that will be important in the upcoming school year. 1. Students will NOT need their instruments this Wednesday, the first day of school. They should plan on bringing them on Thursday, however, we might not play a lot that day. I want to check out all instruments and ensure that they are working properly. Instruments may stay in the band room during the week, but I encourage students to take them home to practice. Instruments are REQUIRED to go home the last day of school during the week and returned the first day of school the following week unless otherwise told by me. 2. If your child needs to rent an instrument, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can ensure we have a working instrument for them. Our school does not have a lot of instruments, but we can help in some instances. I, of course, recommend that your child has their own, but if that is not a possibility, please let me know. We do charge a $50 yearly rental fee for borrowing a school instrument. 3. The band website can be found HERE. It is cmhsbands.weebly.com (please forgive the title - I made the website when I was only the band director at Civic Memorial High School). There is a dropdown menu for the middle school bands that includes updates that I've sent out. Other documents and information will be added within the next few days, including the TMS Band Handbook linked below. 4. The TMS Band Handbook can be found HERE as well as on the website. I will be discussing this handbook with students tomorrow during class and they will receive a paper copy at that time. Things for you to be aware of: all students and parents should read the handbook and fill out the Handbook E-Signature form found HERE and turn in the order form found on the last page of the handbook. EVERYONE needs to turn in an order form. To sum this email up, please do not have your child bring their instrument to school tomorrow, let me know if your child does NOT have an instrument, visit the band website and take a glance at the TMS Band Handbook. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! I'm excited to make music with your child this year! Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Congratulations to our TMS bands for performing at their spring concert last Thursday. I thought the concert went so well and I'm so thankful that the students were able to perform live for the first time this school year! Well done, bands! Please read the following information carefully in regards to the end of the school year in our band class! 6th Grade Students & Parents Please read the following information. Students do not need to bring their instruments next week; after tomorrow, we will not be playing anymore. They should bring their bell covers (washed please!) to school next week and turn them in to me during class. If your child has lost or misplaced the bell cover, please turn in $10 instead. Let me know if you have any questions about this! Next year, 6th-grade students will be joining the 7th/8th-grade band. This is so exciting because it allows them to learn from students who have one more year of experience playing. I highly recommend the following camps for some extended learning throughout the summer: SIUE Band Camp - CLICK HERE McKendree Band Camp - CLICK HERE 7th/8th Grade Students & Parents Please read the following information BIG CHANGE! Unfortunately, some of our students were unable to perform at the concert last Thursday due to being quarantined. To give them the opportunity to perform the music they have been working on, we are going to record our three spring concert pieces on Friday, May 21st during 1st hour. 2nd-hour band students will be excused from their 1st hour to attend. This is a remote Friday for most students, but all 7th/8th-grade band students will be allowed to come to school on this date. We will record the pieces in the Trimpe gym and the video will be shared out to all once it's done being edited. Students will attend all their classes in person this Friday and those students that need to take the bus will be provided bus transportation, just like any other day. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this. Because of this change, students should bring their instruments on Tuesday next week, but DO NOT need to bring them on Monday. After Friday, May 21st, please wash the bell covers (if your child received one) and send them in with your child on Monday, May 24 to turn in to me. If your child has lost their bell cover or damaged it, please send in $10. Let me know if you have any questions!
