Band camp is just a little over a week away! This email has ALL the information you will need for camp. Band Camp is from 8am-5pm from Monday, July 30 through Friday, Aug. 3. Lunch is typically from 12pm-1pm and it is an open campus (students may leave for lunch) as long as students are responsible during this time (no trouble and back to rehearsal ON TIME.) We will start promptly at 8am, which means students should get to the school no later that 7:45am to put their stuff in the auditorium as well as read the board to figure out what they need for the morning's rehearsal and head outside to put on sunscreen! A general plan for a day of band camp is as follows (subject to change): 8am-9am - Movement 9am-10am - Marching 10am-12pm - Drill 12pm-1pm - Lunch (Uniform Fittings) 1pm-2pm - Sectionals 2pm-3pm - Full Ensemble 3pm-5pm - Drill w/ Music Speaking about sunscreen, here's a small list of things your child will definitely need for band camp: 1. Instrument/Instrument Accessories 2. Show Music 3. Folder/Binder to put music in 4. PENCIL 5. Sunscreen 6. Water/Water Jug (Water jugs are preferred - they will spend less time filling them up if their water is in a large jug!) 7. Tennis shoes (not Converse, Sperry, or Vans - need to have good arch support) 8. Lunch if not planning on going out to get lunch 9. Optional - something flat and small to put on the field to mark drill spots (in the past, students have used red lids from QuikTrip) 10. Optional - hat or bandana to protect face/neck from the sun 11. Light weight clothing in light colors (don't wear jeans or all black!) 12. Optional - sunglasses Student leaders also probably have some ideas for things to bring to make the week more smooth as well! BAND CAMP THEME DAYS Monday - Last Year's Show Shirt Tuesday - Color Day Flutes - Purple Clarinets - Red Saxophones - Green High Brass - Black Low Brass - Blue Percussion - Yellow Guard - Orange Wednesday - On Wednesdays, We Wear PINK Thursday - Disney Day Friday - New Show Shirt Our wonderful band parents are putting together a list of snacks to donate if you are interested in donating snacks, and we ALWAYS need bottled water if you can send that in with your child! There is a band parent get together next Sunday, July 29, at High Flyers Grille in Bethalto from 2pm-5pm. Uniform Fittings Our uniform manager, Mary Pearson, and our uniform band parent, Rhiana Stuart, will be fitting students for their marching band uniforms on the following days. Please plan on bringing your lunch on these days: Monday - Seniors/Juniors Tuesday - Juniors/Sophomores Wednesday - Freshmen Thursday - Freshmen Friday - If needed Below is a schedule for the week after band camp and the first week of school. Week of Aug. 6 Monday, Aug. 6 - Beginning Band Camp (Student Leaders Only - 10am-12pm) - 7th/8th Grade Band Camp (Select Students - 1:30pm-3:30pm) - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (4pm-7pm) Tuesday, Aug. 7 - Beginning Band Camp (Student Leaders Only - 10am-12pm) - 7th/8th Grade Band Camp (Select Students - 1:30pm-3:30pm) Wednesday, Aug. 8 - Beginning Band Camp (Student Leaders Only - 10am-12pm) - 7th/8th Grade Band Camp (Select Students - 1:30pm-3:30pm) - Marching Eagles Dress Rehearsal (4pm-6pm) - Parent and Friends Preview (6:30pm) Thursday, Aug. 9 - Beginning Band Camp (Student Leaders Only - 10am-12pm) - 7th/8th Grade Band Camp (Select Students - 1:30pm-3:30pm) Friday, Aug. 10 - Beginning Band Camp (Student Leaders Only - 10am-12pm) - 7th/8th Grade Band Camp (Select Students - 1:30pm-3:30pm) Week of Aug. 13 Monday, Aug. 13 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (4pm-6pm - Freshmen Orientation at 6pm) Wednesday, Aug. 15 - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-4pm) Thursday, Aug. 16 - CM Meet the Teacher (6pm-7pm) Friday, Aug. 17 - Purple & Gold Scrimmage (5pm call) Saturday, Aug. 18 - Alumni Game vs. Jerseyville (Time TBA)* * Mr. Hannaford asked if the band would be willing to play the Star Spangled Banner as an opener for the Alumni Game vs. Jerseyville. This is an OPTIONAL event, but there will be FREE PIZZA afterwards for those who can attend and play. Band students will get in for free only to play and then we will have to leave the stadium. Parents - if you want to see your child play, you will have to purchase a ticket. For students who want to stay and watch the alumni game, they will also have to purchase a ticket. Call CM's main office for more ticket information. Please let me know by Thursday, Aug. 16th if you can attend so I can order the correct amount of pizza.
