Hi, hey, hello!
Words cannot express my feelings for this past weekend's results. This group has put in a ton of work to achieve walking off the field proud of themselves, but validation in a competition's scores also helps to put that pride at the forefront of our minds! I hope that over the next two weeks, in the countdown to the end of the marching band season, that we continue to put our best foot forward and that we don't let any sort of excuse weigh us down. That being said, as always, remember to thank the people that help us to be successful: 1. The Parents! 2. The Staff! 3. The Administration of CMHS (without their support, we wouldn't be able to go on any competitions, or have a show to perform!) 4. Each Other! (you all show up to rehearsals together, work together, sweat together! We perform our show together!) Weekly Goals This week, our goal is to continue cleaning up drill - finding our lines, even and equal step size, creating forms that are readable from the stands. Our second goal is to find our ensemble sound ALWAYS. Are you standing out from the ensemble or are you part of the ensemble? Are you contributing to the ensemble sound? HS Sight Reading Festival (Optional Event) - I have the following students signed up for the HS Sight Reading Festival held this Friday at East Alton-Wood River HS: Morgan Twente, Madison Emshousen, Grace Gross, Brayden Shirley, Kya Collman, Spencer Howard, Jenna Bloodworth, Mark Eldridge, Kaili Stanford, Stella Smith, Emily Fitzgerald. Be at the high school by 7:45am and bring your instrument, all accessories, as well as money for concessions (food!). It is a get yourself there event, but if you cannot find a ride, please let me know because I will be going as well. ILMEA District Auditions - Auditions for ILMEA are next Monday. I will communicate with the students auditioning about times this week once the audition schedule is released. Hi, hey, hello!
Huge thank you to Mrs. White for organizing the caramel apple fundraiser! It was a HUGE hit - we made $2,400 from it that will be the start of our new uniform fund! McKendree Competition Click HERE for the itinerary for the McKendree Competition on Saturday, Sept. 29. It's very similar to the O'Fallon itinerary, but we get home a little bit earlier! McKendree is a really unique competition in the fact that after the students perform, a judge will talk to the students about their performance and then we will go into their auditorium to watch a video of the performance they just had! Instant feedback! HS Sight Reading Festival The Madison County Band Director's Association will be holding a high school sight reading festival on Friday, Oct. 5. This is an optional, free event! It is held at East Alton-Wood River High School. The festival starts at 8am and ends at 1pm. This is a day of no school for the students. For this parade, students are required to dress in a costume! More info. TBA. Batavia HS Visit Last year, we hosted Batavia High School's Marching Band for an evening in late October. This was an awesome experience for the students to make connections with another high school band. This year, we are also hosting them! On Friday, October 26, Batavia High School's marching band will be coming to Civic Memorial. We will perform for them, they will perform for us, we will get to watch their rehearsal, and the students will be able to eat with them and make connections and new friends! More info. TBA, I just wanted to keep this date in your minds! Goals for This Week I'm going to try to include this section in the update for the rest of the year, just to keep everyone aware of what we are trying to accomplish in band this week! 1. The band has officially learned their whole show, music AND drill. Over the next two weeks before our second competition, we plan on cleaning the drill quite a bit, checking over our music and making sure we are being musical! Bobby's Caramel Apple Fundraiser - Pick up will be Thursday after school! Students may take their orders with them after school or Mrs. White will be at the school for awhile afterwards. Homecoming Parade and Game - If you are planning on walking with the band, try to be there around 2pm or so! Parking is NOT easy to navigate during this parade. I highly encourage eating pizza for dinner so that you're not feeling rushed to get other food - it is a quick turn around from the parade to the game! $5 due to me by Wednesday, per person! McKendree Competition - Sept. 29 - I have not received a schedule yet. The moment I do, I'll create an itinerary and send it everyone's way! First off, I want to say how proud I am of the Marching Eagles for their performance on Saturday. The growth this band has made in the past two years in extraordinary and fills my heart with love and warmth. The pure amount of growth that has happened from the first day of band camp until now is also just amazing to see and be a part of. Our next competition is on Saturday, Sept. 29 at McKendree University. When I receive the schedule, I will send out an itinerary. McKendree is unique in the fact that after we perform for the audience, we then move into their auditorium, where the band gets to watch their performance and a judge speaks to them about their show, what they did well, and what they could do better. We plan on staying to watch all bands as well this day. Until then, we are going to keep trucking along, making our show the best we can! Few thank you's for this past weekend... James VonBergen, for driving our trailer to O'Fallon and back! Shelly Moore, for heading up our food and front ensemble transportation! ALL OF OUR PARENTS, for helping us move things around, making food for the band, donating snacks and drinks, being so flexible, supporting what we do, and SO MUCH MORE! It truly takes a village (which I know is something I say a LOT!), but without our parent help and support, the band would be splitting focus on performance days, and we appreciate every single one of you! Caramel Apple Fundraiser GREAT JOB with this fundraiser! We made almost $2,400 to put into our account to start saving for new uniforms! That is a wonderful first boost for this fund. Apples will be delivered on Thursday, Sept. 20. This is during Homecoming Week, so be prepared for that! It also is Color Day (one of the best days of Homecoming Week). Think ahead! Fine Arts Boosters Our Fine Arts Boosters support us financially in helping us equipment, instruments, etc. for our fine arts from K-12. Please consider coming to their first meeting of the school year, Sept. 11 at 6pm in the CM Commons. We need you! Homecoming Parade/Game - The Homecoming Parade and Game are next Friday and this is a quick paced day! We offer dinner to students and families for $5 per person between the parade and game. If this is something you are wanting to do (I highly recommend it - getting your car out of the parking lot after the parade is difficult!), please click HERE and fill out the form. Please give payment to me by Wednesday, Sept. 19. Halloween Parade I was just told the actual date of the Halloween Parade, which, as fate has it, is neither of the dates I gave you on the calendar. :( The Halloween Parade will be held on Monday, Oct. 29. More information about time will come out closer to the date. This Week Monday, Sept. 10 - Student Leader Meeting (4:30pm) - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm) Tuesday, Sept. 11 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6pm - CM Commons) Wednesday, Sept. 12 - Tri-M Board Meeting (7:30am) - Tri-M Meeting (2:40pm) - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-4pm) Friday, Sept. 14 - FB vs. Triad (5:30pm call - we still need set up help for this one - click HERE) Saturday, Sept. 15 - Edwardsville Marching Band Competition (Optional, on your own event, but is held at Edwardsville HS) Next Week Monday, Sept. 17 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm) Wednesday, Sept. 19 - Percussion Rehearsal (3pm-4pm) Thursday, Sept. 20 - Bobby's Caramel Apples Delivery & Pick-Up (After school) Friday, Sept. 21 - Homecoming Parade (Walkers still needed - click HERE) - FB vs. Waterloo (Homecoming) If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. WOW - It's September! O'Fallon Competition I sent out the itinerary last week on the update, but if you didn't have a chance to look at it, click HERE. Students should bring everything with them for the day of and be ready to FOCUS. For all of our students, this is a new competition. A lot of hard work and time has been spent on this show this year; let's put our best foot forward and try our best. Band parents will be providing food after the performance, but please eat before coming to the school. After we are finished performing, we will go into the stadium and watch other bands. This is a perfect opportunity to complete a Fine Arts Critique - more information HERE. Important While we are at O'Fallon, performing, walking around, eating, and watching other bands, we are ambassadors of the Bethalto School District.
