Hi, hey, hello!
Happy beginning of Spring Break! I hope you all take some time to relax during this break. Wonderful job at the Homecoming Parade, band and color guard! This parade was NOT in our regularly scheduled routine, but you wouldn't have guessed it by how well you all did. Thank you for showing up and showing our community that we, the Marching Eagles, are still thriving even amidst uncertain times! Thank you all for adhering to the dress that was requested of you. I know when we first lined up at the parade it was a bit chilly, but I knew that it would heat up once we started marching. Thank you for trusting me. Specials thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Gross for driving the trailer behind us and passing out candy along the way! Winter Showcase The band's winter showcase video and choir's cabaret video was released this past Thursday. You can find this concert HERE. Home Football Games As of right now, the following dates should be saved in your calendars as home football games: April 9, April 16, and April 23. We won't know if these are home games until closer to those dates, but please make sure to have these evenings clear. The plan at home games is to play as a pep band. We will be set up on the track on the right side of the stadium. All band and color guard students received TWO spectator tickets this past week. (If you didn't receive tickets, please let me know ASAP!) These are for the students to invite family members to the home games. If you would like to request more tickets, please reach out to Mr. Hannaford. Senior Night Mr. Hannaford is hopeful that Friday, April 9 will be Senior Night! Spring Concert Our spring concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4 beginning at 7pm. The tentative plan is to have this concert outdoors. More information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Florida Trip Last Thursday evening, the band and choir trip to Florida was approved by the Board of Education. We will be planning a meeting with the tour company for some time in April for those interested in going. Keep your eyes open! If you would like to be involved with fundraising for this trip, please plan on attending the Fine Arts Boosters meeting on Tuesday, April 6 at 6pm. 2021 Marching Eagles Congratulations to our 2021 Color Guard Team! You can see the full list of our 2021 color guard HERE. Wonderful job to all the percussionists that auditioned for their placement. You can see the results of these auditions HERE. Thank you to everyone who interviewed to become a student leader. Interviewing is a good experience regardless of the outcome. The 2021 Student Leader Team can be found HERE. --- End of School Year Schedule Please look carefully at the end of the school year. Some dates have been added to our calendar! Hi, hey, hello!
CONGRATULATIONS to those who participated in Solo & Ensemble! Carter Bloodworth and Josh McCune received a rating of I, which is Superior and Jenna Bloodworth received a II, which is Excellent! They prepared their pieces on their own, recorded them, and submitted them to the virtual Solo & Ensemble Festival a few weeks ago. Nice job! CONGRATULATIONS to our very own, Isabella Garrett, for being voted as the 2020-2021 Homecoming Queen! Also, thank you to ALL of the students that helped behind the scenes last evening that made the ceremony and live stream possible: Nina Chen, Gannon Meyer, Carter Bloodworth, Elizabeth VonBergen, Brian Pearson, and Mandy Drew. This week is a busy week, but it'll be a GREAT one to send everyone off to Spring Break! Homecoming Parade The Homecoming Parade is THIS FRIDAY. Call time is 2pm at CM; step off is 2:50pm. We will start on Stadium Drive, travel down Corbin St., and end around Bethalto East. Mr. Gross is driving the band trailer in the parade so once the parade ends, students playing larger instruments may put their instruments on the trailer before we walk back to CM. Dress for the parade: Band Polo OR other activity top + black pants and marching shoes with black socks. There are a few things happening prior to the parade to prepare us for it: Monday, March 22 during 6th Hour: Pre-Rehearsal All students will attend band this Monday during 6th hour. We will go out to the track to review marching. Please plan on wearing TENNIS SHOES during school this week. Tuesday, March 23 from 1pm-3pm: Parade Rehearsal The entire band will meet from 1pm-3pm on Tuesday to memorize the School Song and march. Wednesday, March 24 from 1pm-3pm: Safety Parade Rehearsal This rehearsal has the same plan as Tuesday, HOWEVER, if Tuesday goes well, this rehearsal will be canceled. Student Leader Interviews Student Leader interviews will be after the parade. Please see HERE for the student leader interview schedule. Here is what I recommend for interviews: dress your best! I know this is after the parade, but there is time to change into business casual clothing. Think about the impression you want to have on those that are interviewing you. Percussion Auditions Percussion students should have signed up for an audition time with Alex for this Thursday. Reach out to him on Remind if you have not done so. Football Games You should have the following dates saved for possible home football games: April 9, April 16, April 23. We don't know as of right now which one of these evenings will be home games for sure; it depends on if the team wins or loses. Because of this, please still plan on those evenings being football evenings. The band will be playing pep band music during the game, similar to what we do for basketball games. ALL band/color guard students will be given TWO TICKETS for family members to attend the home games. Please reach out to Mr. Hannaford for exceptions to this. Florida Trip The Florida trip will be going in front of the Board of Education this week. I will keep everyone updated on this as soon as I know more. Little Women the Musical Tickets CM Drama's production of Little Women the Musical is being held on a recorded stream on March 26 at 6pm, March 27 at 6pm, and March 28 at 1pm. THANK YOU so much to those who were able to attend our optional pep band game on Tuesday, AND our last-minute invite to the girl's senior night game on Thursday. I've received SO MANY notes of thanks from parents and faculty members about us being there. You truly are appreciated, CMHS Band! Homecoming Parade The band has been asked to perform in the Homecoming Parade at the end of March. Color guard is also invited to perform with us. I know this date may feel last minute, but I'm hoping it's early enough that we can all participate. This may be our only parade of the school year and I do feel like it's important for us to contribute to this annual school event. It also allows our community to see us perform live for the first time in a year! There has been an update to this schedule, please see below: Pre-Rehearsal: Monday, March 22 during 6th Hour. I will be sending an email out this week to teachers, but all wind ensemble students are invited to attend 6th hour on Monday, March 22. On this day, we will make our parade block and review marching. (Student Leaders - this has been changed to include the entire wind ensemble. Color Guard - this rehearsal will be just winds and percussion students.) Full Band/Guard Rehearsasl: Tuesday, March 23 from 1pm-3pm & Wednesday, March 24 from 1pm-3pm Date: Friday, March 26 Call Time: 2pm in the auditorium Parade Start: 2:50pm Parade Route: Starts on Stadium Drive, goes up Corbin St., and ends at Bethalto East. Percussion Rehearsals Week 2 of percussion clinics! CLICK HERE for the full percussion schedule. Students should plan on attending the entire scheduled rehearsal. When students audition, they will prepare one of the selections that Alex has chosen. Important Note: Just because you audition for battery does not mean you will be placed in battery. Just because you auditioned for front ensemble does not mean you will be placed in front ensemble. You will be placed on an instrument and in a section that works for the group as a whole. This isn't personal - it's what's best for the band!
