Hi, hey, hello!
Congratulations to our percussion section for performing at the SIUE Percussion Festival this past weekend! They performed in front of family and friends, as well as judges. Immediately following their performance, they were given a clinic by the judges. This instant feedback from a performance was so beneficial for our percussionists and I cannot wait to see how they start incorporating what they learned not only from the comments received but from watching other groups perform. A video of the performance can be found HERE. Thank you to all parent volunteers that helped pull the trailer, load and unload equipment, move equipment from point A to point B, etc. We could not attend these performances without your help! If you are looking to volunteer to help our band at any point in time, please see Jen Gross' emails. If you aren't receiving these and would like to, please let me know or email her directly at [email protected] Bobby's Apple Fundraiser For students attending the Florida trip, we have started the Bobby's Caramel Apple Fundraiser this past week. Happy first week of school! I typed this email on the way back from New Orleans - a quick trip to celebrate the first week of the 2021-2022 school year. I'm sending it out Monday morning; I wanted to ensure that it included everything needed for this week. This email does contain important information for this week, so please read carefully. Purple & Gold Scrimmage Our Marching Eagles will preview their 2021 marching show THIS FRIDAY at the Purple & Gold Scrimmage. The band will perform at 6:30pm on the stadium field, weather permitting. Call time (what time you need to be dressed and ready to warm-up at our designated warm-up area) will be 5:30pm. Dress for this evening will be for the winds and percussion: gloves, band polo, black bottoms (shorts, capris, or pants - no jeans or sweatpants), black socks, and marching shoes. Color guard - Paige will tell you what your uniform for this evening will look like. All ordered items (gloves, shoes, polos, etc.) will be handed out following rehearsal tonight. Following the premiere of our show, we will perform the School Song and the National Anthem to kick off the football scrimmage. The band students will be dismissed after the scrimmage starts. As it is an outside event, all are welcome to attend the performance. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help set up and tear down. Please reach out to Jen Gross if you’re interested in helping. Updated Performance Calendar There have been a few updates to our performance calendar. Please remember you can always reference the band website for the most up-to-date calendar. AWESOME JOB, Marching Eagles, at band camp 2021 this past week! We learned our entire first movement and a majority of our third. We only have 12 sets left to learn before we know our entire show's drill! Let's get it, Eagles! Special Thanks to quite a few people: - The 2021 Student Leader Team. This group of students showed up at 7:15am every morning to set up the canopies, fill containers with ice and water, water bottles, and set up snack tables. They stayed late every day to clean up as well. Their support and encouragement of their sections helped keep the morale up this week! - The 2021 staff: Sam, Brayden, Charles, Alex, Kevin, and Paige. Having such a talented and dependable staff allows our students to truly reach their full potential! Thank you, all! - All of our parent and former student volunteers who spent their time assisting with organizing, uniforms, and everything else under the sun. Jen Gross, Sierra Nolte, Deana Nolte, Mary Pearson, Anna Pearson, Sydney Stuart, Rhiana Stuart, Melanie Thomas, Sue Walker, Todd Ballard, and Carissa Meyers as well as anyone else I missed. Uniforms this week were a daunting task and our team completed them with flying colors. - Anyone and everyone who donated any snacks, water, pop-up tents, moving carts, etc. to our Marching Eagles. The students LOVED the snack tables, as evidenced by the request for more snacks halfway through the week. Charlie and Jen Gross, Stacey Hoffmann, Carissa Meyers, Autumn Ryals, Nicole Arnold, Nicki McRae, Estelle Meyer, Jessica Oehmke, Mandy Kushwah, Amanda Crump, Linda Schillinger, Jeremy and Deana Nolte, Laura Ballard, Shona Quick, Theresa Eubanks-Maberry, Anna Pearson, Jill Barker, and anyone else who donated! Looking Ahead Going into our first week of school, there's been a small adjustment to the schedule. Monday, August 9 - rehearsal has been moved to 3pm-5pm to avoid conflicting with freshmen orientation that evening. On Tuesday, August 10, the Fine Arts Boosters will be having their kick-off meeting for the 2021-2022 school year at 6:30pm in the CMHS Commons. Please come out to see how you can support our fine arts students! On Wednesday, August 11, the band has been requested to play the school song and cadences in the morning as students arrive. I'll talk more specifically about logistics at rehearsal tomorrow afternoon, but the plan is to ask for volunteers to get to the school at 7am on Wednesday and we will make a tunnel to one of the school entrances and play the school song and cadences. That evening, we have rehearsal from 4pm-8pm. This is our only Wednesday rehearsal and our goal is to finish up learning drill to movement 3. Starting August 16, we will have Marching Eagles rehearsal from 5pm-8pm every Monday evening, except for when we have a day off school. Color Guard will have a weekly rehearsal that Paige will communicate to the team about. Percussion-only weekly rehearsals will be on Thursdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm. As a reminder, during the school year, rehearsals are GRADED. Unexcused absences will affect your child's grade. Please reference the band handbook as to what is excused and unexcused and communicate with me about absences. Students who do not attend school the day of a rehearsal should not attend the rehearsal unless given special permission from myself and the administration. They will be considered exempt from the rehearsal and the missed rehearsal will not hurt or help their grade, but they will be responsible for catching themselves up on everything they missed during the rehearsal. Our Marching Eagles will be performing at the Purple & Gold Football Scrimmage on Friday, August 20. This is in place of our typical parent preview. Logistics for this evening will be upcoming - I'm waiting on some information. Parents, once we know more information about needed volunteers, a sign-up will be sent out. Your help is needed and appreciated every step of the way. Please consider donating your time in any small way to help our students succeed! As a reminder, please look at the calendar HERE for the most up-to-date rehearsal times and performance dates. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! --- August Schedule Week of August 9 Monday, August 9 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (3pm-5pm) Tuesday, August 10 - Fine Arts Booster Meeting (6:30pm, CMHS Commons) Wednesday, August 11 - FIRST DAY OF 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR! - School Song & Cadences (7am, CMHS) - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (4pm-8pm) Week of August 16 Monday, August 16 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm) Thursday, August 19 - Percussion Rehearsal (3:30pm-6:30pm) Friday, August 20 - Purple & Gold Scrimmage/Marching Eagles Preview (Times TBA) Week of August 23 Monday, August 23 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm) Thursday, August 26 - Percussion Rehearsal (3:30pm-6:30pm) Saturday, August 28 - SIUE Percussion Festival (Percussionists & Drum Majors only - Times TBA) Week of August 30 Monday, August 30 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (5pm-8pm) Thursday, September 2 - Percussion Rehearsal (3:30pm-6:30pm) HERE is a folder linking to some pictures from this past week!
