Hi, hey, hello!
SIUE Percussion Festival The percussion students, as well as our drum majors, attended the SIUE Percussion Festival this past weekend. The students performed, then received comments immediately after the performance from qualified percussionists. This highly educational experience was a perfect start to our season. Congratulations to them for their performance and their hard work this summer. We are off to a great start for this season! Parent Volunteers Parent volunteers for performances are essential to our band performing at the highest possible level. Please see below for opportunities for you to help cheer on our students so they can focus on the music-making! This evening tends to be a pretty hectic and fast paced evening, and to make everyone's lives easier, we offer pizza for dinner rather than expecting the students and volunteers to go get their own food (parking makes this a bit difficult). Please see below for the RSVP for this dinner. RSVP by Sept. 30 so that I can order enough pizza for everyone. We will also supply drinks (soda, water). It was AMAZING to see so many parents, friends, and family at the preview on Wednesday. This is going to be a GREAT season - I can feel it! While we do have a later performance start time than usual, I want to remind you that when we start performing, we never stop! There are some weeks where we will have up to three or four performances - that is the name of the game! Please continue to drink water, eat healthy and take care of yourselves. At the same time, school is starting up. Ensure that you're staying up on your schoolwork and take advantage of every opportunity afforded to you. Communication All important information can be found on my website HERE. Weekly lesson plans are posted every Sunday for the upcoming week, all documents handed out in class are posted, and much more. I try my best to be very communicative, but if something slips through the cracks, you can guarantee you will receive an email as soon as possible! Attendance, beginning this week, are counted as grades. If an unexcused absence occurs, it is considered a zero. The band handbook outlines the typical excused and unexcused absences, but some situations are a case by case basis. However, if you don't communicate with me, I'm unaware of the situation and the absence goes in as a zero. Communication is important! Volunteer Opportunities We always need volunteers for football games, competitions, parades, donations, etc. Please read Shelly Moore's volunteer email and sign up for anything that you are available for when it comes out! The kids and I NEED your help and we appreciate it more than we can say! Fine Arts Boosters We are lucky enough to have the Fine Arts Booster Club supporting the fine arts in our district from grades K-12. Please consider attending the first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, August 20 from 6pm-7pm in the CMHS Commons! They are holding a Rock N' Roll Bingo on Friday, September 20th to raise funds for our students! Band Fundraisers We have a few fundraisers scheduled for this fall semester: - Bobby's Caramel Apples - Mattress Fundraiser - ButterBraids Please keep your eyes peeled out for these fundraisers - these specific fundraisers go toward our band, specifically for our goal of new uniforms! Weekly Plans Music Goal: Memorize 3rd movement Drill Goal: Review known drill Band Goal: Review expectations for the band classroom Week of Aug. 12 Monday, Aug. 12 - Marching Eagles Rehearsal (4pm-5:30pm - due to Freshmen Orientation being at 6pm) Wednesday, Aug. 14 - First day of school! We had such a great week of band camp last week! We learned the first two movements of our fall show! With such a great start, the staff and I are looking forward to an amazing season! THANK YOU to all parent volunteers throughout the week. Without you all, band camp wouldn't go as smoothly as it does. If you are interested in helping next year at band camp, please be on the look out for sign ups next spring! This is such a short email, but there's not much to say when everything is going GREAT! Looking into the next two weeks, here's what's going on: Week of August 5 Monday, Aug. 5 - Full Band Rehearsal (4pm-8pm) Wednesday, Aug. 7 - Full Band Rehearsal (4pm-6pm) - Friends and Family Preview (6:30pm, Practice Field @ CMHS) Week of August 12 Monday, Aug. 12 - Full Band Rehearsal (4pm-5:30pm - this time is because of freshmen orientation this evening) Wednesday, Aug. 14 - First day of school! Please be aware that the Marching Eagles start performing the second week of school! Be on top of your calendars and make sure to communicate. We can fix everything by communicating.
