Hi, hey, hello!
This update has all the information regarding what will occur in September. One itinerary that will be sent out at a later date is the Murphysboro Competition. GSL Percussion Festival Last weekend, the percussion section performed at the GSL Percussion Festival (formerly called the SIUE Percussion Festival). The students performed, received a short clinic from the judges, and then had the opportunity to watch other percussion sections perform. The best part about going to competitions (after our performance, at least), is watching others groups! Thank you to the parents who assisted with this festival: Mr. & Mrs. Ballard, Mr. & Mrs. Patton, Mr. & Mrs. Yenne, and Mr. & Mrs. Gross. First Football Game CONGRATULATIONS to the Marching Eagles on their first performance! Thank you to all those who assisted at the game, from band parents to alumni. If you haven't had a chance to watch the video from Friday night, CLICK HERE. Fundraisers - The band will be selling Bobby's Caramel Apples beginning on Sept. 6. Forms and payment are due Sept. 21 and pick-up will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27. - The Fine Arts Boosters will be having a Dine-Out night at El Mezcal on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The proceeds from this evening will directly benefit the band - going toward the new marching uniforms. Please consider supporting a local restaurant and our marching band students! - Factory Mattress Direct will be having a Marching Eagles Day on Saturday, October 22. The band will receive 10% of whatever is purchased on this day. If you have a need for a new mattress or know someone that does, please send them to Factory Mattress Direct on October 22! Performance Date to Add Please ADD the PowderPuff Football Game to your schedules on Sunday, September 18. Exact call time is TBA, but our performance will more than likely be in the afternoon before the championship game and then we will stay for the championship game as well. Last year's call time was 1:15pm and I expect the same this year. Dress for this event will be the show shirt and shorts with marching shoes - no full uniform. For those wanting to participate in the flag football games, that's completely fine. MEMC Competition - O'Fallon - Sept. 10 Please CLICK HERE for the itinerary for this competition. Attached to this email is also the full competition schedule including warm-up times. --- See the band website's calendar for the most updated schedule of events. Hi, hey, hello!
The students had a very successful and productive time at band camp last week! They spent the week putting the drill and music to their show together. They currently know all of the drill for their show, most of the music, and are looking ahead to our upcoming performances! This was one of the most fun band camps I've had the honor to be at; thank you, students! There are a few updates in this email; please read carefully. Thank YOU! For anyone who donated food, money, or time to our students this past week, thank you so much! The following parents helped in some way and the band appreciates you: Ms. Arnold, Ms. Gilleland, Mrs. Saboff, Mrs. Shirley, Mrs. Herzog, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Rea, Mrs. Gross, Mrs. Patton, Mrs. Roose, Ms. Hampton, Mrs. Albers, Ms. Sue Walker, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Yenne, Mr. Gross, and Mr. Ballard It takes so many moving parts to make a marching band season successful for all the students. These tickets are sold for $9, and we receive $4.50 for each ticket sold. You have the following options: - Sell all ten tickets. Return $90 to me. - Sell some tickets. Return the money equalling the tickets sold and the remaining tickets to me. - Sell no tickets. Return all tickets to me. You are responsible for either returning the tickets, money for the tickets, or a combination of either that equals $90. You walked out of Trimpe with $90! Please do NOT give your tickets and money to anyone other than me. Ticket/Money Drop-Off There will be TWO drop-off days and times for returning all unsold tickets and money. The first one is THIS WEDNESDAY, July 27 from 2pm-4pm in the Trimpe Band Room. The side door will be propped open. The second one will be Monday, August 1 from 6pm-7pm in the Trimpe Band Room. The side door will be propped open. If neither of these drop-off options works for you, please let me know and we will discuss other options. I have a few updates for you all. 1. I announced to the band today that I will be returning as Bethalto's director of bands for the next school year. This past year has been a roller coaster ride in my personal life: I believed I would be in Arizona right now. However, my grandmother's health and some other personal factors have made that move not be the best decision for me. After a lot of thought and discussion, I came to the realization that the place I should be right now is Bethalto. I'm happy to be back and it's been wonderful being with the Marching Eagles this week. 2. Attached is the most up-to-date schedule for the 2022 Marching Eagles. Below are some significant changes. I realize some of the students may have conflicts. Please let me know ASAP. - Band camp has been moved from August 1-5 (8am-6pm) to August 8-12 from 10:30am-9:30pm. This is mainly to give the stadium some more time to be completed. It is my hope that we will be able to use the stadium during band camp. The time change is to accommodate some sports practices. Pushing band camp back a week will also be better for retention purposes - school starts a week later than usual this year (August 22). Please communicate with me ASAP if this is a conflict for you. Due to the last-minute notice of this, grace will be given. Just please communicate. - The competition schedule has been updated. For those in other sports, all competitions chosen are late afternoon/evening competitions. We will work out individual sports conflicts as they arise. 3. The school district has committed $20,000 for new marching band uniforms. This is amazing news! I'm going to double-check with The Fine Arts Boosters regarding their commitment to new uniforms. Over the past six years, I have saved money in the Band Activity Account. Last time I checked, there was $8,000. The uniforms that we are looking to purchase were quoted to me at a little over $40,000. We are SO CLOSE! We are going to be running the following fundraisers to get us over the hill on this amazing purchase for our band! - July 14-Aug. 1 - Tickets to the Alton River Dragons baseball game on Sunday, August 7. More info. will be given to students tomorrow. - September - Bobby's Caramel Apples Fundraiser - November - Butterbraid Fundraiser If you have any ideas for a fundraiser, please feel free to reach out to me. 4. I will have some more information in the next few weeks. To stay updated, please join the Band Remind: Text @cmhsband22 to 81010 You can also find the most-up-to date calendar at the band website: http://cmhsbands.weebly.com/calendar.html or CLICK HERE I think that's it... As always, please just let me know of any questions or concerns. I prefer over-communication to not knowing. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
I was notified that the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30 will NOT have a parade. It will still consist of the sit-down ceremony at the Rose Lawn Garden and the band will still participate! We were asked the perform the following: - National Anthem - Armed Forces medley - School Song Current high school students are expected to perform at the Memorial Day ceremony. This ceremony honors those who served in the armed forces and this is a wonderful opportunity to show respect to many. If you cannot make this performance, please let me know ASAP. I would like to invite all CMHS alumni to join us for this performance. However, this invite is only for winds to play (everyone else is invited to attend the ceremony, of course - but we have enough current high school percussionists to cover all percussion parts so we are just inviting winds to play.) Music links can be found below! Please email me if you are planning on attending this performance! Happy Parent/Teacher Conference Day! If you are wanting to meet with me virtually, please let me know and I will send you a Zoom link. As a reminder - percussion rehearsal for tonight (Thursday, Feb. 17) has been canceled due to weather. Stay warm and safe! 7th/8th Grade Pep Band Night THANK YOU to those who helped make the 7th and 8th-grade pep band night a huge success: from parent volunteers who helped serve the pizza to high school students that served as mentors to the younger students to all high school students who stayed, ate pizza, and introduced the younger musicians to what high school band involves: a boisterous family! This night went so WONDERFULLY and I'm so thankful it was able to happen. We had approximately 30 7th and 8th-grade band students join us this evening. Mrs. Gross posted pictures on the band's Facebook page if you would like to see them. Band Trophy Case After six years, I finally found the key to the trophy case in the commons that holds some band trophies! A few students spend their afternoon yesterday taking the older trophies out and replacing them with the new ones. If you find yourself in CM and have a spare moment, take a look at the trophy case by the American and Illinois flag stand. It has all the trophies from the past seven years in it and it looks AWESOME! Florida Trip There will be a mandatory informational meeting regarding the Florida trip.
