I'm sending this out earlier than normal because it is a busy weekend for a lot of us! Congratulations to the cast and crew of Shrek the Musical. The students have been working diligently on putting together this production since January and wow, their hard work is noticed! So proud of all students, but special shout out to the 27 band students that are a part of the production as well. Chicago Tour Final payment of the Chicago tour is due NOW! Accounts can be found HERE. There is a mandatory meeting THIS MONDAY in the CMHS Auditorium at 7pm. A parent/guardian is needed at this meeting as all finalized information will be handed out. We want to ensure that everyone receives the information they need as well as give the opportunity to answer any questions anyone may have. Fine Arts Boosters Vendor Fair The Fine Arts Boosters are holding a Vendor Fair on Saturday, April 6. More information can be found HERE. They will be requesting for volunteers to help set up and work this event. More information TBA. The Fine Arts Boosters do a lot for our fine arts students, so if you can help in any way, it would be appreciated! If you are interested in serving on the board of this organization, please plan on coming to some of the meetings that are scheduled for the rest of the 2018-2019 school year: Tuesday, April 9, Tuesday, May 14, and Tuesday, June 4. Alton Muny Band The Alton Muny Band is a community band that plays during the summer months twice a week. There are weekly rehearsals on Monday evening, and performances are Thursday and Sunday evenings. This is a wonderful sight reading opportunity and a great way to keep up on music reading and playing skills. I've attached a flyer to this email. If you are interested or think it you may be, come to the first rehearsal and check it out! Personal Note I would like to thank all of you for your support this semester. It's been a rough one, both personally and professionally. If you didn't know, I received a slightly new teaching assignment this year: I teach in three buildings through out the day. I start at Trimpe and teach 8th and 7th grade band (two groups I have never taught before), go to CM and teach high school band, then to Meadowbrook to teach 5th grade band. Adjusting to that new schedule has taken it's toll on me, but at CM specifically, but not only, the students have been just amazing to work with. They know what we need to do and how we need to do it and I don't believe we've had a bad day ever this year. Add to that adjustment the various hurdles, obstacles, and life events that have occurred throughout this semester, your patience, flexibility, and trust in me to teach your students about a subject that means so much me has helped keep me going every day. Along this vein, if there is anything I can ever do to confirm or clarify what is happening in our classroom, please let me know. Music Goals We are focusing on By My Side and Apples this week in preparation of the Chicago trip and spring concert. Congratulations on an amazing Winter Showcase concert! I've received countless compliments about how well you all did; and I hope that you take those compliments to heart because this concert was all about you guys: how well you worked together and how well you know the music. Great job, band! Also, congratulations to Brayden Shirley, Alex Hornsey, Emily Fitzgerald, Jenna Bloodworth, Jordan Shields and Nicole Stonecipher! They performed at solo and ensemble this past weekend and all received excellent scores, which is not an easy feat! It's not easy to perform a solo or duet in front of a judge and a small audience, but everyone did well! Special shout out to Brayden for receiving a perfect score!
