Hi, hey, hello!
I hope everyone's Christmas week was a relaxing and family filled time for all! As we roll into January, I wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page! Jan. 3 SIUE E-Band Game This is an optional, free opportunity for our musicians at SIUE! We have been invited to play with the SIU E-Band at some basketball games. There are two games this evening - a 5:30pm game with a 4:55pm call in their gym, ready to play and a 7:30pm game with a 6:55pm call in their gym, ready to play. This is a get yourself there type of event. The location of the evening is in their Sam M. Vadalabene Center. If you GoogleMaps this building, it should take you right to it. I'll be there as well if you want to message me via Remind as to where you're going. It'll be a lot of sightreading, but a lot of fun! Please wear SIUE colors - red! Please let me know if you plan on attending this event. Solo and Ensemble Solo and Ensemble is coming up on Saturday, March 2. If you are interested in performing a solo or an ensemble for this event, please communicate with me. I will help you where I can, but this event is an optional event, and the preparation falls on you! Unlike in middle school, we do NOT have to select from a certain list of repertoire, which opens up options, but you cannot choose something that is not of quality. If you decide to participate in Solo and Ensemble, we will meet at least two times beforehand to make sure that everything is going smoothly. You will have to pay for your solo or ensemble ($8 per solo; ensembles vary but you can split the cost with the other members). If you need a pianist, please communicate with me! All notification and literature selections need to be completed by Friday, Jan. 25. SIUE Bi-State Festival Select students have been chose to attend this event. If you have been notified as being one of those students, please look at the THIS itinerary. Class Goals For the first half of second semester, we focus on what I call the Solo and Ensemble Project. While we do not all attend Solo and Ensemble, it is vitally important that our growing musicians are challenged with different literature as well as different responsibilities. While performing in a concert band setting is the norm for our musicians, playing in a smaller ensemble brings about different challenges: being an individual performer, because in smaller ensembles there are less parts and fewer musicians, individual accountability for knowing their parts, and the list could go on! We will still be learning a few concert band pieces for the Winter Showcase as well as for the Chicago trip, but the focus is the Solo and Ensemble Project. I think that's it for the first part of January! Week of Dec. 31 Monday, Dec. 31 - New Years Eve - NO SCHOOL! Tuesday, Jan. 1 - New Years Day - NO SCHOOL!
