Pep Band Our first pep band game last week was a success! The pep band schedule can be found HERE. The only change from this schedule has been the call time. Call time from here on out will be 6pm. I wanted to give everyone a pep band update leading into tomorrow evening (our first pep band game of the season)! The pep band dates can be found attached to this email, as well as on the calendar HERE. The schedule for all pep band games EXCEPT senior night games (dates TBD) will be as follows: Call Time: 5:30 OR 6 (for the first few games, it'll be 5:30pm until we get into a routine) - The band will warm-up in the auditorium then move to the main gym - Students will have halftime of the JV game and third quarter to eat, talk with friends, etc. - Students should return to the band at 4th quarter of the game. - Following the JV game, the band will play School Song and then stand tunes. - Before the Varsity game, the band will play School Song and the National Anthem. - After the Varsity game starts, the band is dismissed. The students will put away all of their equipment, and then go home! Typically, the varsity game starts around 7. I anticipate students being picked up around 7:15pm. They are more than encouraged to stay for the game itself if they choose to do so! The only exception to this full schedule is the senior night games where the band will stay the entire varsity game. The dates of these will be shared out at a later time, but they will be in February. Dress for pep band games is the band polo, with the jacket being optional. If your child has a conflict with any pep band dates, the expectation is that communication from a parent/guardian is received. This will excuse your child from the event and it will be put into PowerSchool as an exempted grade (there will be no make-up assignment for a missed pep band game). All it takes is an email with a valid reason as to why your child won't be there. Lack of communication in a timely manner (24 hours after the game) will result in a zero. If your child has another school sanctioned activity/event, all they need to do is tell me. For instance, Sally sends me an email saying she has a bolwing match during the pep band game. This is an excused absence - Sally communicated why she won't be there. Students should NOT assume that I know. Communicate to ENSURE that I know! This is a life skill! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Happy November! With marching band season wrapped up, and concert band season on the way, please see the end of this email for some important dates! Marching Season THANK YOU to everyone who was able to help in any way this marching season! Without our parent volunteers, the marching band does not function. In whatever way you were able to assist, thank you, thank you, thank you! For those who were unable to assist, or in any way deterred from assisting, please consider helping next year. WE NEED YOU! Mr. and Mrs. Gross are communicable and reliable and can answer any question you may have from a parent-volunteer standpoint. Butterbraid Fundraiser + Factory Mattress Direct Fundraiser Factory Mattress Direct held a one-day fundraiser for the Marching Eagles on October 22. We made $515.24! We appreciate the support of one of our town's merchants and are looking forward to making this an annual event. We have made a little over $3,000 from Butterbraids this year. Thank you to everyone who participated! Pick-up will be Next Wednesday, November 9, from 2pm-6pm in the CMHS Auditorium. As these items are frozen, please make sure your items are picked up and delivered in a timely manner. CLICK HERE to see if your child sold any items. New Marching Band Uniforms Our new marching band uniforms have been ordered and have started to be shipped! This past week, we received our new shako hat boxes (they have purple lids!) More information to come about this! Consider going to the Craft Fair this weekend to learn more! Pep Band Pep Band is coming up! Pep Band is required of all band students. A typical pep band evening looks like this: - Arrive at CMHS, warm-up in the auditorium - Move to the main gym; break time during JV game - Play in between JV and varsity game; play National Anthem and School Song - Depending on the game, we will either 1) leave after playing National Anthem and School Song or 2) leave after halftime of the varsity game. Dress for pep band is the polo (with jeans/pants). Students may also wear the band jacket. You can find a list of pep band dates at THIS LINK. December 20 - CM Band Tour to Meadowbrook + Trimpe On Tuesday, December 20th, our CM band students will tour to Meadowbrook and Trimpe Middle School to perform for both schools. This is a wonderful recruitment tool for us! We will depart following finals and lunch that day, and then perform at both schools before coming back to CM, unloading, and then having an optional band dinner at a to-be-decided-upon location, where we will also have an optional White Elephant gift exchange. More details will be shared about this in class as we approach this date! This is hopefully the LAST rehearsal change of the school year. I'm sorry for the back and forth. We are getting used to using the turf field at the high school and it has required patience and flexibility on our end. - We WILL be having rehearsal next Monday, Oct. 3 from 5pm-8pm. - We WILL NOT be having rehearsal on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 5pm-8pm. Instead, we will be having an optional marching band dinner at CMHS. This dinner will be a taco/nacho bar from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Please read the following information to learn more about this event. To plan accordingly and to ensure that we have enough food for all students, we are requiring an RSVP for this event. All students can eat for free, of course, but we need an RSVP for your child to eat. Please be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Gross regarding donations and set-up. This dinner is for members and staff of the 2022 Marching Eagles only. This dinner will send the band off on their final competition of the school year at Western Illinois University! Please RSVP at the following link by THIS FRIDAY, Sept. 30: Oct. 11 Band Dinner RSVP P.S. Musically yours, Michaela Davis Hello!
Sorry to be sending you a short update mid-week. We had an 5pm-8pm rehearsal last night, and it became dark around 7:30pm. As we get further into fall, it will be getting dark earlier. The only way to combat the darkness is with lights. Our stadium has lights, but we are working around some other schedules when it comes to using the stadium. To solve this issue, we are changing the following rehearsals: The rehearsal that was originally scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26 from 5pm-8pm will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27 from 5pm-8pm. The rehearsal that was originally scheduled for Monday, October 3 from 5pm-8pm will be only from 5pm-7pm. The rehearsal that was originally scheduled on Monday, Oct. 10 from 5pm-8pm will be on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 5pm-8pm. I am hoping that this is enough time to work around work schedules. Please communicate with me if you have any questions or concerns. Musically yours -- Michaela Davis Hi, hey, hello!
Congratulations to our Marching Eagles for their performance at our first competition! The students were focused and diligent, and survived the heat! Looking ahead, we are trying to put our third movement on the field as well as add some visuals to the first and second movements. A note for competition - please be respectful at all times: while entering and leaving the stands, when other bands are performing, AND during awards. Do not push or shove when coming into the stands or while leaving. This update will have all information needed for our remaining September events. Please read carefully and let me know if you have any questions! The next two weeks are pretty packed, so please plan accordingly and remember to communicate with me if any emergencies arise. Murphysboro Competition The itinerary can be found HERE. PowderPuff Football Game This is on Sunday afternoon following our Murphysboro Competition. We will meet at 1:15pm in the auditorium. Dress for this performance will be the show shirt, black shorts/capris/pants, and marching shoes. If you are playing in the game or a cheerleader, this uniform is not required. Schedule for the Day: 1:15pm - Call Time 1:50pm - Pre-Game 2pm-3:15pm - Watch the junior vs. freshman game and senior vs. sophomore game 3:30pm - Halftime Performance 3:45pm - Watch the championship game Approx. 4:30pm - dismissal Homecoming Parade + Football Game The Homecoming Parade is next Friday, September 23.
